Guest guest
I am now just waiting for my hm. This last week though every night I have been woken by pains in my e. it feels low down and like an acid stabbing pain. If I take some fluid in it kills the pain, I usually have a few sips of ensure. Problem is then the fluid comes up in the night and now I have a cough. It is not a spasm, I normally get them when completely empty. So to sum up, if empty I get pains, with something in the e I get a cough. Has anyone got the same and if so what strategy are you using to help? Guest guest
This might be different for everybody but I find I can often deal with the pain, prior to the time it turns into a spasm attack, by drinking a carbonated beverage. I feel that the pain is associated with air in my esophagus and it helps to belch or burp the air up. Sometimes in takes more than one can of soda. On the coughing, I believe your HM will take care of that. The liquid or food is coming back up trying to go down your trachea. That cough is what is preventing the food from entering your lungs where it could cause aspiration pneumonia. The best remedy for a cough is to raise the head of your bed so that gravity keeps the food from coming back up. Pillows slip. At first I elevated the head of my bed with bricks. Later, I invested in an adjustable bed. > > I am now just waiting for my hm. This last week though every night I have been woken by pains in my e. it feels low down and like an acid stabbing pain. Guest guest
Hi Stu,  I dealt with similar pain during the night for years!!! Laying flat always could bring on a spasm, so I slept with two pillows and that helped me alot. The good news is that once I had my hellers done I have no trouble sleeping on one pillow. After 22yrs of dealing with it, it's finally gone and life is SO much better for me. I hope you get proper help soon!  Julee in Oregon ________________________________ From: Stuart McCormick <stuart@...> " achalasia " <achalasia > Sent: Saturday, April 28, 2012 1:41 PM Subject: Bit of help  I am now just waiting for my hm. Guest guest
I still sleep on three pills. I always have. I am not at a 45 degree angle anymore. The only thing is I still have to sleep on my back. If I go to the side (which I love to sleep) I get a burning sensation in my chest. I hope this will go away in time. I am post 10 days after HM.  Suzanne From: Montoya <medhelpinfo@...> Subject: Re: Bit of help " achalasia " <achalasia > Date: Saturday, April 28, 2012, 11:27 PM  Hi Stu,  I dealt with similar pain during the night for years!!!
