Guest guest
A moderator can easily make the adjustment that all new members need to be approved, etc... I am a moderator for a flyball board and I have done this to stop spammers. It is a pain getting an email, asking for memberships to be approved but I prefer to keep the list on track. I also attached a letter asking that everyone please tell me who they are before I approve them. If I don't receive a response, I don't approve the membership. Kim > > There is a better solution. Guest guest
Not true. On , a moderator can only make this change if the owner has given that particular moderator that particular class of permissions. Approving memberships is unnecessary to control spam. Since only 10% (to pick a reasonable number out of my hat) of members even post that initial message, adding a requirement to approve ALL memberships just multiplies the moderators' work ten-fold unnecessarily. Guest guest
THANKS!! Ann Spam All: I think the best thing to do with these Spam Posts, like the recent religious one that some of you saw, is ignore them. I delete them when I see them. Darla, the list owner, has not yet responded to my request to " Screen First Posts by New Members. " Responding to the Spam just creates more Posts that everyone has to weed through (like the one I'm typing now! LOL), so just ingore them and rest assured I will delete them and ban the authors as soon as I see any inappropriate Post. Thanks for your diligence everyone. Regards, Doug from CT Moderator dougfromct2002@... P.S. - My apologies to those whose Posts I deleted, but I figure it is best to minimize Spam & Spam-related Posts as much as possible. Your objections and suggestions have been duly noted. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Robyn, I will answer your long and interesting message later, but on thepoint about spam: hopefully you should now be LESS open to it, not more! I cannot guarantee, of course, but what I have done is to reset the group membership settings, so that when someone logs on to Senate to become a member for the first time, their email address is sent to me privately as group owner to approve. If, as in the last spam message, it is a string of incomprehensible digits with no name, I will email them to ask their interest. If it is a standard email address, I will just approve it. As I operate the Senate account from home, that may mean they will have wait up to 24 hours before being allowed to join. Alternatively, which lots of people do anyway, anyone who mails me and asks to join, I will just log them on to the system. I have just been increasingly aware of spam messages recently, and many people have sophisticated sytems that take messages out automatically. Email groups get a high rating whatever the subject line, so I suspect that some people have disengaged by accident, becuase their system thinks all Senate messages are spam. That is what has prompted me to make the change. We initially made the group completely open when, in the early days of Senate, there was so much hostility and conviction that we were a dissident 'takeover' group of some kind, so it seemed preferable to have as few rules barring entry as feasible. I will be interested in any views or comments about my rather unilateral action: I think I had just received one rubbish message too many last night and decided to take action! Guest guest
Can anyone tell me what is the current thinking re nursery nurses documenting in health visiting records. Should all entries by a nursery nurse be countersigned by a health visitor? There seems to be a lot of variations from one organisation to another, and even within organisations. Thanks . Guest guest
Thanks for this explanation sarah. My home e-mail has done as you explained and has disconnected me from SENATE, but I still get it at work. It has also done it to mail from the CPHVA PSIG, but unfortunately I hadn't regisitered that membership with work - so have lost communication there. Guest guest
The email address surpriseshan2@... aka. Shan posts regularly including news stories that are typically statin and/or cardiovascular related. There was no " marketing " in the story so I'm just inclined to believe that it was just another contribution to thelist. You can go to the message area of the group and do a search for surpriseshan2 and 245 contributions will be listed. If you look at the headers on the email, you'll see that it was approved by edgundy@... and it did come through the group path and really originated from the aol.com mail system. Spam would have had irregular headers inside the message. There were several questions/answers within the post including material on natural options that might control blood pressure. The point on sexual dysfunction was related a question to taking Prozac like drugs, a common issue for people on those kinds of drugs. I replied to the mistaken point that there were no natural solutions. I do agree that real spam gets old. Steve Manzari wrote: > > > I hope I just didn't facilitate corrupting my computer. Guest guest
I think it was a legitimate concern. I also get so many emails that I often don't want to take the time to figure out where it's from and if it has value or not, so I just delete. The bank one is very common. Apparently, the spammers think I have bank accounts at dozens of banks. ;-( I do however give each of my financial accounts unique email addresses so I can track sources simply by looking at where they sent the mail. This has allowed me to report a security breach at one of my brokers web sites when that unique email address, only provided to that broker, started getting stock " tips " related spam. It turned out they had a consultant that still had access to the system after his job was done and he was able to get to small portions of customer information including email addresses. Guest guest
Holly, you manually want to add to your spam blocked email addresses, under options in the upper right hand corner, then mail options, then spam on the left side column, then add into the blocked box: fanbox.com, myfanbox.com and fanboxnotes.com, then click save in the upper left, so far... They keep adding them on occasion. B > > What was the address to block besides fanbox? Im getting spammed to > death. lol >
