Guest guest
Dear C J you sure hit the nail on the head there. I will do what you said that is so right! This doctor knows all about my Stills and he seems to car so maybe if I throw myself on his mercy I will get help, even if not from him maybe he can send me to someone he knows who could help. Oh thank You so much this is just what I needed. I can't even think clearly with all this pain. I don't know much about high blood pressure but intend to look it up and find out. I do know it runs in the family even though I am the only one with Stills. You know I did what you said about calling the pharmacist. I am surprised I could at least do this. But he said with what i am taking too much Advil will cause me to hemorrhage again and he advised Rhumcade and some other new drugs out there. Which when I brought that up to my doctor she was quick to tell me that these were not for Stills and JRA. She said that all the trials that they did with stills and JRA no one did good so she wouldn't even think to try it on me. Then for the one or two that you have to give yourself a shot, she said no to also. She said my blood work was fine. So ok but where is this pain coming from? Yesterday while taking my kids out to Fat Burger I started to get chilled and was starting to shake with coldness. I had to go out into the sun to help some. I wonder if she even knows what blood work to take! Anyway I am going to do what you said and let this doctor know (that I go to tomorrow) how bad I am feeling and that he is my only hope. Thank you! Guest guest
You are always so quiet, Arlene! I love hearing about Miss Shan. I am glad you are pursuing other options for her rather than having her be away from home for 11 hours a day! My gosh, that's ludicrous! I thought the educational system in Canada was waaaaaaaaaaaaay better and waaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of us here in the US of A as far as inclusion goes. This transportation THANG is no good! I'll write a letter too for Miss Shan......for whatever that would be worth! : ) Glad to hear she is having a good year so far in grade 8. is also in grade 8 and has just finished making his 5 phone calls for the night to his " chicks " in 7th grade. What a lady's man! LOL. If only he would concentrate on his academics as much as his womanizing! What a trip! Is enjoying her freedom from her brace? It must be such a relief to her! Guest guest
Hi Welcome to the list I was on your medics course at Arbroath with Alan White some time ago .... Glad to know your still enjoying the work - your English is better than most of the gibberish I use! best wishes Hi All Hi Ian, Ross and everybody, Let me briefly introduce myself. I am Sukhitashvili. Since 1998 worked for OMS, later LOH, as a local doctor/medic, on Baku Supsa Pipeline construction and then at Supsa Terminal Clinic. Took over from Dr. Mike McCarty. When Mediclub took over I moved back to LOH, which soon turned into FMS. Last two years spent mainly overseas. Morroco-Egypt-Romania-Libya. Dr Cook is back in Georgia now and we are looking for Baku Jeyhan Pipeline. Insalla! I remember some names but in person I think we have not met. Thanks for your hospitality and good luck. Forgive me for my awkward English, It's my third language and I learned it in my 30th. Guest guest
Ditto. New to this list, in Arctic Canada - not quite the same as offshore, our drilling season is when the arctic ocean freezes over... No permanent platforms yet, but many rigs now on land (also seasonal depending on how cold it gets - the colder the winter, the longer the season). Anyone else on the list from Canada? Or from the remote mining industry (Diamonds and gold are big over here)? Fly Safe. Guest guest
Hi, I have a headbanger too. He's 9 now. As far as headbanging that's behavior related, what I've been told to do it's more VBA than ABA (and it's been somewhat successful) is, first don't talk to them or make eye contact but try to block the headbanging if it's severe mostly by putting your hand on what they're trying to bang on - ie if it's the wall or floor, put you hand on the wall or floor in front of their head not on their head. The theory is that they are asking for attention in some way and by not reinforcing that attention, they will eventually realize it's not working and move on to something else. When the tantrum is done you can then give him the words to tell you ( " I'm Mad " or " I want video " ) if he's verbal or can echo and/or redirect ie if he was mad because you said no videos, when tantrum is over, you can say " ok now we can read a story/have a snack/play with.... " . Other things I've found is that when I removed food allergies from his diet (milk and corn), his headbanging dramatically decreased, as they become more verbal it also decreases and after going to a neurologist who specializes in pediatric brain injury and can read an EEG and tell you what areas of the brain are damaged. I found out my son has seizure like spiking activity going on in his frontal lobes (area of the brain that controls behavior/emotions). We are currently working on controlling/eliminating that and are seeing a decrease in tantrums and headbanging. Hope this helps In a message dated 3/12/2003 10:16:26 AM Eastern Standard Time, stacieandearl@... writes: > Hi all I am new here. Guest guest
Hi there, The behavior you are talking about sounds very serious, and you should get professional help in order to come up with a plan to decrease the behavior and increase more appropriate behavior. Without going into a whole lesson on functional analysis, I suggest that you ask whoever will be consulting/supervising/overseeing your ABA program to conduct a functional analysis to determine WHY your child is emitting this behavior. Someone suggested that it might be for attention, but without observing, recording and analyzing data, and coming up with a plan based on the analysis, it would be impossible to give suggestions. In fact if you intervene based on what you think might be the reason, without an actual true analysis, you may actually worsen the behavior. Your ABA provider should be familiar with these procedures, and if not maybe you should seek an outside behavior analyst to help. Best of luck to you - in the meantime, I guess you should just keep him as safe as possible. -Jannine
