Hi Laurie!

I can't thank you enough for all of this work that you did in

preparing this information for me--quite a bit of it was new to me.

I have recently started investigating alternative medicine (because I

was getting no help from allopathic doctors--actually, that is an

understatement! ;-) LOL I have always felt that I have some sort of

infectious disease, but the doctors in my area refused to help me.

I am seeing a naturopath, and my plan is to keep with the diet that he

has given me (or modify it to one that I think may work better for

me). On my own, I am going to start taking homeopathic treatments to

treat viruses. I do have the Epstein Barr Virus, so I will work on

that. I was told that I probably have a whole bunch more. I also

have fungal infections. (When the receptionist asked my naturopath

about the products I was getting, he did give me the go ahead on this;

however, he stressed that he really wanted me to keep with the diet.)

I think I will also try to add the Olive Leaf Extract. (I would like

to purchase it locally, if possible.)

So, that is my game plan. I have to cut out my coffee, as I

understand that it inactivates the homeopathic preparations. Just

today, I went and purchased a coffee substitute. ...while it sure

ain't coffee, I think I can live with it! ...if I have to! ;-) LOL

Thanks, again, for putting all of this information together for me. I

will be printing it out.

Kind regards,

Trudy Newman

Hi Trudy,

Welcome to the group. I have found that Olive Leaf Extract is a good

herbal antiviral/antibacterial/antifungal/antimicrobial agent.

There is a book by Dr. Morton , available in paperback. You can

do a search on http://www.amazon.com for this and it tells a lot about

it. The most potent source appears to be from Eastpark, but you can

get their's cheaper from http://www.needs.com

Black Elderberry - there is a black elderberry syrup from Isreal,

named Sambucal. I can't remember where we got this, but you can order

it (anyone? - or I can ask my husband when he gets home) This one has

been effective against the flu in studies in Isreal, and I suspect

that it is helpful against other organisms. I have experienced some

die-off reaction (Herxherimer Reaction, or " herxing " ) also from a

supplemental form of

elderberry from Zand. Herxing can be a useful indication that what

you are taking is doing something, but if herxing gets too

uncomfortable, I'd cut back on whatever I was taking.

Nondenatured whey (I use Immunepro), but there are others,

http://www.immunepro.com (you can also get it from Needs). Check

the polls for this group, to see what people think of different

brands. This is what Dr. Cheney (a CFIDS researcher) thinks of whey.

I think it's important to note that we are all somewhat different, and

may respond to different degrees to supplements or medications. If

you decide to take any of these, do your own research (and share with

us, of course<g>) and start with small doses, then increase

gradually. As I recall, it can take up to 48 hours (?) for you to get

a Herxheimer reaction off of something.

Another antifungal is 10 Undecenoic acid. I get mine from " The Modern

Herbalist " .

Also, Yeast Avenger from CFSN has been very good for me. Yeast

Avenger is a probiotic, " 'Bacillus Laterosporus BOD', a friendly

bacteria that restricts growth of candida yeast and fungus " .

Caprylic acid and grapefruit seed extract are also antifungals, but in

my experience, 10 Undecenoic acid has been the more effective acidic

treatment.
