My dream: An HIV care program

Dear members of e-FORUM,

Loving regards to all of you.

It is highly appreciable to know that many a number of people are

having great interest in HIV/AIDS related issues. Many people are

bringing out their opinions through this e-FORUM. It helps a lot to

conscientise others about the day to day happenings on AIDS related

issues throughout India. Valuable information are therefore

sent to everyone thru this e-FORUM.

I am from Pathanamthitta in Kerala and now stationed in Pune. I am a

priest of Mar Thoma Church. I have been in and around Bombay for the

last 9 years. Therefore I have come across many people suffering due

to AIDS/HIV in Maharashtra. For the last more than one and a half

year, I was planning and praying for the cause of AIDS/HIV care.

It is understood that most of the hospitals in our towns are neither

admitting aids patients nor extending treatment to the financially

backward people. Therefore many poor patients are suffering due to

lakh of availability of possible treatment. Also many families are

totally scattered due to the death of one or both the parents. Many

children have become orphans, especially in the low class society,

where no one is there to care for them. The number is to the increase

now. Therefore my vision is about two main projects with many sub-

projects.

1.

First one is a CARE CENTRE for the TERMINATELY ILL HIV/AIDS PATIENTS.

It will be a hospital with all available facilities, qualified Doctors

and staff to Let live and to Let Die peacefully. Poor people will be

given preference in the hospital. More details are to be worked out.

And all the infra- structure is to be made.

2.

Second is a CARE CENTRE for the CHILDREN OF HIV/AIDS patients who have

died leaving their children with no one to take care of. We will adopt

such children and their education and accommodation will be taken care

of till the age of 24/25. It will be a HOME for such children. It may

need school/ collage facility along with other vocational training

systems. This also needs house-parents, and other staff with all

infrastructure.

Other than these, some projects for pregnant women with HIV/AIDS,

children with Aids, Research, etc.are also needed. Field staff and

counsellors are essential along with technical staff members and teachers.

It is a big project that I am planning. I HAVE FULL FAITH IN GOD. All

these are visualised without having any financial back ups so far.

Whatever details that you need could be sent to you. Presently I am

trying to locate a land in Maharashtra where we can start all these

projects.

work, in what ever capacity, your response to the following email

Thank you for the wonderful initiative, I am sure you will get a lot of support

for this noble venture. Our country needs more and more commited people like

you.

May I also suggest that you contact Mr. Ashok K. Rau of the Freedom

Foundation-India, he is a person who had a similar dream 12 years back, I know

he has now set up a huge organisation (the bigest in the area of HIV/AIDS) he is

also equally well known for his work in the area of substance abuse. He started

Freedom Foundation with a empty pocket. He is known for his holistic and

comprehensive approach in the area of care and support including children

I think The Freedom Foundation has 7 different units in 3 states all 50 bed

units

Dear Father Abraham,

The earlier mail that I had written to you on your id bounced.

I wholly agree with Vineetha's suggestion. Your dream is highly

appreciated. As they say, all good works start with the dream. There

is a government of India committee called the National Committee for

Promotion of Social and Economic Welfare, Deptt. of Revenue, Ministry of

Finance, North Block, New Delhi.

The NC, as it is known, approves of very well meaning project, which

targets to assist at least 50% from the underprivileged. Since your

dream is about that, I think you ought to apply to the NC. Once your

project is accorded approval, you can raise tax payer's money. And in

your place, there shouldn't be much problem. There are lots of

corporate houses which would be willing to contribute to your good

cause. If you mail your postal address, I shall try to send you the
