Most doctors around here are closed to new patients, >having an already overfilled schedule, so when they do have openings for >a few new people, they can afford to be picky :@<-- el As far as I know its not a law - but there is a medical ethics concept called " abandonment " - a doctor can't just quit treating a patient, s/he has to make sure that the patient is able to get medical care afterwards. Really the only threat against the doctor is a lawsuit - a complaint to the govt bureaucracy that administers Medicare would probably be useless. And (personal experience) a lawsuit would be very slow and VERY expensive, so not worth it.
