Cindi,

I've been wondering the same thing myself. I get those flyers in the

mail and every so often I think I ought to do it. The only thing that has

stopped me is that they have to remove the vent covers, and the clowns that

owned this house before us PAINTED them shut!!! I don't have the energy to

cut the paint so they can be taken off. I'd probably have to paint the whole

house afterwards which would pretty much kill any benefit I might get from

the vent cleaning.

Dear Theresa,

Painted them shut? Good grief! I was going to suggest covering vents with

cheesecloth, but could it be attached? It would help with the dust and

other allergens. Which reminds me that I need a furnace filter....

Because I have a tri-level house, the upstairs portions get too warm, so I

shut the vents, and cover them with anything available - waste basket

in kitchen, magazines/books I'm reading in bedroom {yes I know books should

not be in bedrooms :-)},etc. Good luck with this problem. Honestly if I had

the money I would rip all carpets out and have those wonderful wood floors,

have allergy control system on furnace, closed book cases. Well at least I

don't have heavy drapes. But the blinds need cleaning.... Hey, wish me

luck too!

Take care,

Christie

We had ours cleaned about 4 years ago and we're way over due for another

cleaning. Some recommend it every year. You also have the option of having the

ducts sanitized after the cleaning.I am not

sure what is used for that but I want to check it before the next time as I'm

concerned about the chemicals used. The duct cleanig did nothig for my fatigue(I

am allergic to dust).
