Guest guest
I saw my doctor today and I asked him specifically about HHV6. I told him that I wanted to know if the HHV6 was active. He said that I tested positive by PCR for HHV6a and that that would mean that it was indeed active. My understanding is that there is a different test and that DNA does not show active infection. Now doesn't PCR show DNA in your blood? Does a PCR tell you if the virus is active? a
Guest guest
There seems to not be common agreement on this. Some doctors think PCR shows active infection, others (www.hhv6.com) say that you have to culture the virus and try to grow it. Because I this confusion I didn't bother with either. I didn't see what good it would do to have a test I wasn't sure what to do with. Plus, you can get a negative result, then a month later get a positive result (I guess the HHV6 hides.) It would be nice to have a conclusive answer to this question. I really don't think I have hhv6 because I tested negative a couple years ago and now just antibiotics are making me better. But if I thought I did, I'm not sure what I'd do. Dr. Berg (hemex.com) said to try transfer factor for a month ($270) and if it makes you sick then you know you have it. But I think you could have other viruses too that the transfer factor would help, not just hhv6. And actually I asked the people at www.hhv6.com how much their test was and I think it was cheaper than $270.
