it comes in oil form, I just pour out a tablespoon and drink it straight,

taste isn't bad! The ground up flax seed would undoubtedly be a good source

of fiber though.

I put the flax oil on my salad with some salt. I really like it and

it is healthier than the dressings in the grocery store which have

transfats and preservative, flavor enhancers, etc.

More to consider:

My new doc said I should stop taking the Spectrum (considered among the

best brands) of flax seed oil and instead buy organic flax seeds and

grind them into a meal and put them in food. I was doing l tbl of oil a

day. He said the equivalent for the seeds was 3 tbl per day.

He said it isn't only cheaper it's more stable and more valuable for the

various good things flax does for us. Far more. In fact as long as I'm

on the oil he said I must open up 3 caps of vit 3 and dump it in the

bottles to keep it from going bad EVEN though refrigerated (or

deteriorating--not sure if bad or less effective).

I'm gonna make the change ONLY if I can find a cheap coffee grinder

(electric) that will do it. Because I haven't the

strength/energy/uptime.

He also said that I should grind my calcium citrate up too. More easily

and completely absorbed.

So today I'm gonna get a coffee grinder and pray it does both.

Some people say that the absolute best way to get the most out of flax

seeds is to eat them freshly ground. The oil is good too but goes

rancid very quickly. If it smells like linseed oil don't use it.

For grinding flax seeds, a basic electric coffee grinder works great and

we see them all the time at thrift stores and garage sales for about $5.

Use this recipe periodically and thought others might be interested.

Usually cut the brown rice syrup way down because of sugar sensitivity

as it's only purpose seems to be to hold everything together and make it

more tasty. Have also substituted oat bran for the wheat germ. This is

the recipe as it was given to us and can be altered drastically

depending on sensibilities and availability of ingredients. As long as

it all sticks together and tastes good enough that you actually like

eating them, then everything should be fine.

EFA (Essential Fatty Acid) Bars

Mix 1/4C flax meal, 1/4C wheat germ, 1/4C oat flour, 1T carob powder, 1T

sunflower seeds, 1T pumpkin seeds, 2T sesame seeds. Then mix 1/4C

tahini, 2 tsp flax oil, 2 tsp sesame oil. Blend the dry mixture with

the oils and add 1/4 C brown rice syrup. Mix well, form into bars and

refrigerate. Should make about 10 bars. Eat about 1/day.

Judith,

I use my husband's coffee grinder to grind my flax seed and it works

fine. I just have to pick out the chaff first :^)
