Dear Friends and Colleagues,

On behalf Cultural Program of Bangkok AIDS 2004, I would like to invite you

and your network to join us to make the Bangkok Conference full of life

lives and activity. We would like to see Bangkok conference a conference

with culture and arts.

Individual artists, art groups, community art groups, theatre, musicians,

will be invited to take part in the conference. There will be exhibitions of

the artworks and art projects throughout venues, live art walls, art

workshops, fashion show, AIDS Poster show, on-line art projection, media

arts, films, theatres, performances, dance, music, songs and poetry reading.

However, the cultural program organizers rely on your support. We recognize

that your network may have contact with groups or individual artists who

have done artwork related to HIV/AIDS. Either community mobilization type

work or individual creations mention above or new innovation art forms are

also welcome. You and your network can support us by suggesting names and

contacts.

As we all know in reality, we cannot bring all artists to the conference,

but the earlier information will help us to develop a better program and

selections. However, for artists who cannot come to the conference we also

plan to have an art on-line projection, at the conference main hall. In this

way, we can accommodate and exhibit as many artworks as possible.

We wish to use poetry as voices from different cultures and in response to

issues discussed in sessions. We would like to ask you to send us some poems

you would want us to read to the conference. We plan to organize poetry

reading at conference sessions, in all tracks, before, at the end or during

the sessions, in original languages. Poetry can be presented as song,

chanting, melodious rhyme, and prose, etc.

Performance and Live Action will be taking place in hallways, exhibition

areas, as well as on stages in community lounge. There will be movie

screening in cafeteria during lunch time and in theatre provided in

conference venue, accompany with discussion with producers, directors. Also

there will be International AIDS Film Festival organize in the city of

Bangkok by affiliated local organizer.

AIDS Posters exhibition, will enable us to see how things have changed along

the way since the 1st International AIDS Conference in the 1980's. The

posters will be installed in a room, organized and arranged by local and

international volunteer artists. We hope all participants of the conference

will be kindly contribute posters from their organization, countries, and as

well as their own collections.

History of AIDS movement will be presented in a form of fashion show of AIDS

Campaign and Conference T-shirts and ornaments. Participants of the

conference can contribute their collections to this historical recount and

see non-stop live fashion show as well as video documentations or CD Rom. We

are also planning cultural parade, where people from different culture are

invited to join in their traditional custom dress. The parade, however, do

not focus on cultural beauty alone, but we also encourage participants to

make their banners voicing issues and concerns.

I hope that these ideas sketching out our cultural program would be able to

gain your support. We also hope to get your valuable input of more ideas,

artworks, events and activities, as well as volunteering with the Bangkok

AIDS 2004 Cultural Program. For further information and volunteer your

support, please contact me at thaicom@..., or at this personal

address.

As I had indicated in an earlier posting, I deal with

several Youth and Women Groups based in Mombasa that

are involved in HIV/AIDS Awareness campaigns using

drama, song and dance as a tool of disseminating

information.

Will be glad to hear more about this coming festival.
