Guest guest
, I was wondering if you could talk more about how Moducare has helped you with chemical sensitivities - or has it just helped with more standard allergies like hayfever, dust, mold, etc., etc.? I have increasingly severe MCS along with CFIDS and react much more to plastics, scents, ink, exhaust, etc., even though I also have standard allergies, but my reactions in the two cases are different. So I'm curious if Moducare helped with chemical sensitivity reactions. Peggy
Guest guest
I'd have to say yes. For example, formaldehyde, although I don't have an allergic reaction to it with hives or asthma, at times has caused severe dizziness in me. Going into a furniture store, for example, would make me real with dizziness, and for years I've had to avoid furniture stores, and as a result, for years I had very little furniture in my living room, and was unable to shop for more. Made me feel like I was living on the wrong planet. I was embarrassed to have people come to visit my home, because I had no place for them to sit. But a couple months ago my husband and I were able to shop for living room furniture, and we went to a dozen different furniture stores, and I managed to not get dizzy in any of them, and my living room actually looks like a normal living room now. I can't guarantee that it was the Moducare that has helped, because I use so many other things. But to site one example, I recently ran out of the Moducare for a couple weeks, and during those couple weeks I discovered that I couldn't handle my mail till it had aired out for a day, among other things. It would make me feel really brain fogged, and dizzy. When I started back on the Moducare, that problem disappeared. But as for why it helped, I'm not sure, because my understanding of some of the sensitivity in MCS is that the body just isn't able to manage to detox very well, so any little exposure to anything toxic (even something as innocuous as hair spray or bar soap) can tip the toxicity level too much and cause symptoms. And that seems to be apart from the immune system functioning. So MCS encompasses more than just immune system allergic reactions. Then again, I suppose I can follow a chain of logic to explain it, although I can't guarantee that it is the right answer. Since Moducare helps to modulate the immune system, and since there are often infections going on that increase toxicity levels, and contribute to altering nitric oxide levels, anything that can decrease the infection load can contribute to improving MCS symptoms. Moducare may improve the immune function for fighting those infections, and thus, in a round-about way, help to lower nitric oxide levels, and other toxic levels, etc., that might be contributing to the MCS. Just a guess. I think that Pall's ideas about nitric oxide levels have as much to do with MCS as they do to CFS. The catch is whether you can tolerate Moducare, or the capsules that it is encapsulated in, or the packaging that it is packaged in, etc. (It comes in a plastic bottle, and the label is printed with ink, etc.) I've tried a number of other things that are supposed to improve MCS, and found that I reacted to those things. I've had to do a lot of experimenting to find things that I can tolerate. Or maybe it is just a matter of getting past the initial period of using a product till it takes effect. I'm not sure. I'm getting a little side tracked in answering your question here. lindaj@...
