Guest guest
Kerala NCC takes up AIDS awareness Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 22 The Kerala unit of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) has taken up imparting AIDS awareness among the public. As the first step, NCC cadets have adopted 10-year-old Vidya, a HIV- positive girl from Pathanamthita near Kochi, and will look after her education, NCC deputy director general Brigadier M.P.S. Bajwa told reproters here Saturday. " So far she only had her grandmother to take care of her, but now twice a week around 15 NCC cadets along with their duty officer spend time with her, " said Bajwa. Through their interaction with Vidya, the cadets have spread the message to people in the area that there was no need to shun the girl, as a result of which she is livelier and no longer lonely. Bajwa added: " This was a test case for us and we have succeeded. We are now planning a similar scheme for Kozhikode and trying to find HIV positive children there. " The NCC also plans to spread awareness on AIDS in Kerala, through its units in the state that boast of 74,210 cadets, he said. http://www.newkerala.com/news-daily/news/features.php? action=fullnews & id=1070
