Guest guest
Hi, I don't know if what I'm experiencing is a Herxheimer effect or not. Are there any of you on the heparin protocol who can tell me if it's normal to react to the heparin with die-off symptoms under these circumstances? It took me 2 weeks to get to the full dose of 4000 units X 2 since my doctor had me start at one-quarter the usual dose and ramp up. I encountered no adverse reactions until I got to full dose last week. I've eliminated anything else that could be causitive so the over- whelming fatigue, the head pressure, brain fog, feeling very cold, IBS, and increase in pain seem to be heparin related. Berg told me to expect the Herxheimer within a month but I expected that to happen after a month of being at full dose rather than when I'd just arrived at full dose. Can anyone here comment to give me an idea if this is herxing or not? Thanks, Leah
Guest guest
Hi, From my understanding heparin doesn't cause a herxheimer effect but if you are taking Transfer Factor or antibiotics to treat an infection (known or unknown) this will probably cause a herxheimer reaction. If your WBC count goes up then there is an infection present and this would cause a herx. I'm by no means an expert but this is what Berg mentions in his townhall meeting. Hope others here can help you with this. Guest guest
Some people get herx effects just from heparin. For one, once the fibrin starts to break up the bugs start floating around more. Also, heparin is a mild anti-viral. Berg told me essentially the same thing in my conversation with him prior to starting the heparin protocol, that thinnning the blood would expose pathogens. Yesterday a staffer at Hemex said that some people respond with symptoms such as I am experiencing with doses as low as 2000 units. And that some feel wonderful on starting and others feel like they're dying. And that 4000 is much too high a starting dose for some patients who need to begin low and ramp up gradually. And evidently there are times when conversations are needed between your doctor and to determine the best route for each patient. There was more but you get the picture. Gee, after 20 yrs of this craziness now why did I think the heparin protocol would be anything near cut and dried? lol Leah
Guest guest
hi, exactly three days after starting heparin, my symptoms intensified, I'm now, quite miserable. My doc says its the heparin. Guest guest
I think herxing is common at any point in the first month, and beyond. Take care of yourself. I got shingles when I was stressed out from my husband having surgery during my 3rd week on heparin. Took me 3 months to begin to feel any improvement because of the die-off. > Re: heparin: Herxheimer effect already? > > > hi, > exactly three days after starting heparin, my symptoms > intensified, I'm now, quite miserable. > My doc says its the heparin. > > EML > heparin: Herxheimer effect already? > > > Hi, > > I don't know if what I'm experiencing is a Herxheimer effect or not. > Are there any of you on the heparin protocol who can tell me if it's > normal to react to the heparin with die-off symptoms under these > circumstances? > > It took me 2 weeks to get to the full dose of 4000 units X 2 since my > doctor had me start at one-quarter the usual dose and ramp up.
