Doris,

My sister called to tell me this news too. Do you have a link for the show

it was on?

They have done studies that show possible links between pesticides and

neurotoxic chemicals, like pesticides and the recreational drug ecstasy

(there are other theories, though, that ecstasy might help Parkinson's

patients). There was an interesting case at the Environmental Protection

Agency (ironic) a number of years ago -- a cluster of people got sick with

EI/MCS after renovations were done and new carpeting was installed. One

study (see below) found that those who use indoor pesticides were much more

likely to develop Parkinson's. On a TV set, it seems like there could be

many environmental possibilities -- constant renovations, frequent pesticide

spraying (especially if the show was taped in a warm climate like LA), etc.

Combination of Pesticides Linked to Parkinson's Disease

By Cat Lazaroff

ROCHESTER, New York, January 3, 2001 (ENS) - A combination of two widely used

agricultural pesticides - but neither one alone - creates in mice the exact

pattern of brain damage that doctors see in patients with Parkinson's

disease. The research offers the most compelling evidence yet that everyday

environmental factors may play a role in the development of the disease.

The scientists caution that more studies are necessary to explain the link,

since it is probable that many factors contribute to a complex disease like

Parkinson's. The researchers say it is unlikely that the pesticides on their

own actually cause the disease.

News Note: Pesticides Linked To Parkinson's Disease

" Another study by Stanford University neuroepidemiologist Dr. Lorene

showed that people exposed to in-home insecticides are 70% more likely to

develop Parkinson's disease and that exposure to garden insecticides assumes

a 50% increase in likelihood for developing the disease. "

Hi Doris & all,

I think MJ Fox could bennefit from Dr.Cheneys GH & FBGF

(Mesenchyme) treatments. A similar drug called GDNF (Glial Cell

Derived Neurotrophic Factor) has been studied as a Parkinson's

treatment.

As I posted on the list earlier, CFS patients might benefit from GDNF

which I hope Dr. Cheney knows about.

Hi Steve,

I don't know the status of GDNF. A friend called and heard about

it on the news, I then went to google.com and entered " GDNF

parkinson's " in the search window and there were a few things about

it there.
