Guest guest
Carla, HHV6 is simply an abbreviation for Human Herpes Virus Six. This simply means it's one of a group of Herpes Viruses that are known to have some common characteristics. These include being able to remain inside the body in a dormant state without being active. During this period the person concerned will be symptom free from signs of infection from that particular Herpes virus. Perhaps this is best expressed by considering Chicken Pox, another Herpes group virus, that most people experience during childhood. However, the Chicken Pox virus is not eliminated, but prevented from replicating further provided the person's Immune System is competent. However, if the person's Immune System is weakened, as typically happens during old age, then the Chicken Pox virus can re-activate. When this happens, the clinical condition is called Shingles and can be treated in the same manner as Chicken Pox. When treating Herpes Group Viral Infections, there are a number of Antiviral drugs that can help such as Aciclovir, Valtrex, Ganciclovir, etc., but none of these eliminate the viral material, they simply block the viral replication process and are most effective at the onset of acute infection. I hope this helps answer your question, or at least part of your enquiry. Guest guest
Human Herpes Virus 6. There is also HHV7, HHV6a and HHV6b, etc. Lots of variations. Some people believe most people with CFS have HHV6. I and others tested negative for it, but then it is believed that it hides out, and if you get tested multiple times you will test positive sometimes and negative other times. As with most viruses, it probably exists in most people. That is what the person below was saying. That most of these viruses exist in everyone, but their immune system keeps it in check. With us, our immune systems don't keep it in check and we get sick. But I don't know if anyone really knows what % of the population has HHV6 because it is so hard to test for. Guest guest
I read that they were sign of activated HHV6. Guest guest
I read that they are a sign of mycoplasma infection. Every person that tests postive to mycoplasma has crimson crescents. Perhaps they are just a sign of many different types of infection. lindaj@... Re: HHV6? > > > | Do you mean most of us, PWCs, or even healthy people? Guest guest
Carla, I believe that during my last message I left a crucial piece of information from the material presented regarding HHV6. HHV6B normally occurs during early childhood and is known as Roseola. It is normally a relatively mild illness and results in a rapid full recovery. HHV6A is a form of reactivated Roseola and can occur during late childhood or into adulthood. Usually it means that the Immune System has been compromised so that this normally dormant Herpes group virus starts to become active and can become chronic. This is when symptoms such as red skin patches and others can appear. As a Herpes group virus there are no antiviral drugs that I can suggest that will eradicate this virus, but there are some such as Valganciclovir in tablet form that may help block it's replication process thereby reducing the intensity of the infection. The Infectious Disease doc I asked abou them said, I see that on most of my paitents, even the ones that have no infection, in fact I have them myself, they dont have any significence. Re: HHV6?
