Rich,

I have swelling in the left upper chest for the last 4-5 years. At first I

was very worried about it but than I noticed that I also have a swelling on

the leftside of my brain. So,I understood that it is one of the CFS

symptoms.

| Annette,

|

| This skin brushing sounds interesting. I wonder if it is increasing

| the ability of your lymph system to carry away fluid. I have heard

| that the lymph system can become very sluggish in CFS. I think Dr.

| Cheney has reported a swelling in the left upper chest where the

| thoracic duct, which carries the lymph into the blood circulatory

| system, is located. Do you notice anything like that?

Annette's reply:

Hi Rich, thank you for the reply. Spot on. The

swelling in the left upper chest (as you described)

was remarked on by Dr Hyams in London when he examined

me. I hadn't mentioned the skin-brushing etc to him.

Hi All,

I feel that activities like swinging your arms and legs

around,

among other exercises is good to increase your lymphatic circulation /

drainage.

Lymphatic drainage and venous drainage is sort of a passive function

that

is accomplished by the various muscle movements in the body. They

squeeze on these vessels and cause the fluid inside to move toward their

final drainage site, which for the lymphatic system is, I believe the

thoracic duct. The fluid goes in, basically, one direction, because

there are one-way valves in these vessels along their lengths at

various intervals.. They are similar in ways to heart valves.

I visualize that deep body massage would also be good for

the lymphatic circulation.
