A DISCUSSION ABOUT AIDS IN SOUTH ASIA Come get an update about the devastating situation in the subcontinent ahead of World AIDS Day on Dec. 1, Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003; 6:30-9 pm SPEAKER: Mahesh Mahalingam of UNAIDS in Geneva. He will be introduced by Geoff Cowley, who has reported on AIDS in the region for Newsweek magazine and will moderate the discussion. Mahesh Mahalingam is Communication Adviser, Department of Social Mobilisation and Information, UNAIDS. Prior to joining UNAIDS, Mahesh Mahalingam was engaged in HIV/AIDS prevention activities in South Asia with WHO and FHI, with UNDP in Nepal and, in India, for the Department for International Development, UK, WHO and the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. His work included strategic planning, technical and systems planning, monitoring and evaluation, training and capacity building, advocacy and media relations. He was also actively involved in youth work for over 15 years, with special emphasis on HIV/AIDS prevention and youth health.
