Hi again!

THE BENEFITS OF ISOPRINOSINE (for me)

As I said before, I consider this to be a wonder drug, if you have

whatever it is, that it works on. I know this sounds too good to be

true, but I swear, these things have occurred. Actually, I can't

believe it myself. All of this was evident in the first 3 days of

taking the Iso.

The absolute most dramatic thing that happened was this:

The very first night, after only 6 tabs, I SLEPT A REFRESING SLEEP,

like I had not in 12 years. I slept through the entire night,

without waking up every 3 hours, without being awake and asleep at

the same time, without strange dreaming. It was so incredible. I

woke up feeling RESTED for the first time in 12 years. The feeling

that morning when I woke up is indescribable. We all have probably

forgotten what it is like to sleep normally. This has decreased over

time, but has not disappeared. Because of this experience, I feel

that the sleep issue is a MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR player in CFS.

The next thing I noticed was that my ALL OVER, TINGLING, PINS AND

NEEDLE BODY PAIN, AS IF EVERY CELL IN YOUR BODY IS BEING TORTURED WAS

GONE. This pain has not come back while taking the drug, but started

to slowly reappear during the 2 day reduced dosage, and during the 2

weeks off.

I then noticed that my severe, severe leg aching had disappeared,

along with many muscle and joint aches, although these flare up from

time to time, but not to the degree as before the Iso. Instead of

hurting and aching, my muscles just feel tired and over used even

though I hardly do anything, like move.

(I would like to add here, that I classify CFS Grand Overall Misery

into 3 catagories.) First, the sick all over feeling, like you want

to just die. For me, this was eliminated with Immunocal. Second,

the cell torturing, described above, greatly controlled with the

Iso. Third, the body, muscle, and joint aching greatly controlled

and somedays eliminated with the Iso.

My next classification is CFS Un-grand Specific Misery. These are

horrible and annoying, but not like the above.

First, the gut problem. Mine has been severe for 12 years, bloating,

gas, pain, swelling, etc. It just disappeared. After the first 6

tabs, I have solid waste for the FIRST time in 12 years, no bloating,

no gas, etc. This disappears very quickly at the reduced and off

dosage times.

Second, the intersystial cystitis (spelling?), that is the frequent,

low volume, burning urination. This just disappeared for a long

time, and then slowly but very minimumly creeps back with occasional

flares, but has not returned to pre-Iso levels.

MORE BENEFITS

Next is brain fog and mental energy. This will be hard to describe.

I don't think we realize just how fogged we all are till we come out

of it to any degree. Although, I have an occasional moments, I just

don't feel foggy. I feel much more mentally alert. And I believe it

to be part of the sleep issue. As I slept better, I just had more

brain power, and a much more positive and better attitude. Plus,

the " release from the pains " described above, seemed to release

mental and physical energy. Somewhat improved is my ability to

remember things.

PHYSICAL ENERGY is another hard one to describe. Initially, I had

much more in quality and in length of time (that is more than 4 hours

a day.) Although some days are better than others, this has leveled

out. The time is generally not extended, but I feel better during

the time I do have. This relates to Dr. Cheney's living in a energy

limited box. Feeling better makes you FAR MORE AWARE that your

mitochondria are damaged, and you JUST CAN'T DO ANYTHING. You feel

good enough to do things, but you just can't, you have no " dynamic

hormonal response " to get up and go.

One other minor thing, is that I now have long and beautiful

fingernails, even far better than my pre-CFS nails. They just

started growing after the Iso. Previously, they just broke and

split. But my hair still falls out.

SUMMARY

It is my feeling that these benefits will not be lasting, when

permanantly off the ISO. BUT, I DON'T REALLY KNOW what will happen

then. Immunune modulators do not work over extended periods, but who

knows how long that is, and it is probably different for each

person. I do not know if these benefits are from immune modulation,

or from attacking the HHV 7, or from both, or even from something

else.

All of these benefits decrease to varying degrees depending on the

symptom, during the 2 day reduced dosage, during the 2 weeks off, and

as you get closer and closer to the end of the 3 month cycle. But for

me, ENOUGH of the benfits remain, to make it well worth it. Heck,

the gut thing alone is well worth it, for sure.

I am not cured by any stretch, and am happy to have however few

moments in time, feeling better, and suffering less. I will continue

to take this as long as Dr. Cheney permits, and as long as it it

beneficial.

I will see Dr. Cheney in the fall, and will discuss all this with him.
