Guest guest Posted July 24, 2003 Report Share Posted July 24, 2003 International Conference of South Asian Parliamentarians (SAARC) for 'Advocacy Role of Elected Representatives in Prevention of HIV/AIDS' Indian Association of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (IAPPD) is organizing the International Conference of South Asian Parliamentarians (SAARC) for 'Advocacy Role of Elected Representatives in Prevention of HIV/AIDS' from August 1-2, 2003 in New Delhi. The Conference is co-sponsor by Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD), Thailand, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), New Delhi. Lok Sabha Speaker Mr. Manohar Joshi will inaugurate the Conference. The Elected Representatives specially the parliamentarians, if do the advocacy role for spreading awareness on HIV/AIDS amongs the masses, help in formulation of laws etc. and monitor government activities on HIV/AIDS the situation can improve to a great extent. With this objectives the Conference deliberations will be center around prevention of HIV/AIDS for protecting children, adolescents and women. The organizer expecting that Parliamentarian/Legislators assembled in the conference will discuss the all aspect of HIV/AIDS. Some issues are HIV/AIDS challenge in South Asia; Response to HIV/AIDS Epidemic; Expanding partnership; Prevention; Stigma; Effective polices; Enhancing political commitment; Migration and its relation with problem. IAPPD, the organizer of the Conference is a national level promotional body for the public representatives from Panchayat to Parliament irrespective of their party affiliations, is working actively in the field of population stabilization programmes for the last almost 22 years. During these years, it has gone much ahead in motivating the elected representatives regarding alarming increase in population and consequent problems facing the countries of the Asian region specially India.
