Guest guest
Kathy, is right about this. Coagulation of the blood is a very complex process. It involves two main aspects: there is a big cascade of proteins that are involved in controlling the deposition and removal of a fiber called fibrin. Then there are the platelets (also called thrombocytes), which normally float around in the blood. A blood clot is composed of fibrin fibers, with platelets stuck to them. (I think it's sort of like a beaver dam. The beaver uses sticks for the framework of the dam, and then uses leaves to block the flow of the water, and the sticks support the leaves.) So hypercoagulation can have many specific causes, and it's important to know where the problem lies in order to know how to fix it. This complexity is the reason behind the relatively high cost of the tests involved, as for example those performed by www.hemex.com. Some people just try treatments, hoping to hit the right one or ones, but it's nice to know what's really going on, if you can afford the tests. I am always scheming to try and do the shortcut around all these expensive tests. Christmas is covered so maybe my sweetie pie will give me a Hemex blood test for Valentines Day! I'm sure he'll be thrilled with that idea. Sigh. Kathy
