Preference will be given to equally qualified women candidates. Major duties and responsibilities: Provide technical direction and support to NACO on epidemiology and strategic information, including estimations on HIV/AIDS and disease surveillance, in coordination with WHO and the UNAIDS ICTSA. Provide advice on management and assessment of surveillance data, including aspects of communication, establishment of knowledge management systems and flow of information between field and national level. Advise NACO in research and development related activities. Also contribute to epidemiological mapping of the epidemic across the states and on studies on strategic issues. Liaise with ICMR and NICD and other relevant institutions in epidemiology and strategic information, including estimations and disease surveillance activities. Coordinate and participate in meetings, workshops and training of national health staff on all aspects of strategic information, HIV/AIDS epidemiology and surveillance. To carry out other tasks as defined by the Country Programme Adviser / Country Coordinator. Educational Qualifications: Post-Graduate level University degree in public health, epidemiology, community health or a related field. Knowledge and Skills: Strong management and negotiation skills; proven training, facilitation and communication skills; understanding of financial management issues. Ability to work independently and as a team player in a multi- cultural environment. Working knowledge of computers including MS Office package, essential. Experience: A background of 8-10 years experience in the areas of public health epidemiology; policy analysis, programme planning and management and a significant understanding of the social and economic dimensions of HIV/AIDS. Experience in multi-sectoral programme development and district level implementation; good understanding of India. Familiarity with the UN System, Government structures at National and State levels or other international development organisations an asset. The incumbent/candidate will interact with high ranking officials of NACO, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, ICMR and other key agencies. Languages: Proficiency in spoken and written English essential. Knowledge of one or two Indian languages will be an asset.
