HI!,

JJ gets 20 hours a week of one on one. He gets it thru the ARC. They do ABA

with him and works on social. They also have paid for 30 hous of horseback

riding and 30 hours of music therapy. When school starts they will go into

the school and make sure things are going ok for him and/or help teach the

aids AND teacher as to where JJ is and what programs hes doing. Lois

California. My new granddaughter is getting respite too, and she was just a

preemie with cleft lip, palate and gum. Call your early intervention

service provider and ask for it !

Generous ! I get now 60 hours per quarter, average 20 hours a month. 2

years ago it was 90 hours. Heavy case loads forced a cut back.

I think respite is determined by each individual situation. We have

twin's with autism and that is the basis for our situation. We receive

96 hrs/mo out of home care-30 hrs/wk in home care & 2 week/yr vacation

respite for each of our sons. In home care can feel somewhat intrusive

at times but it is a package deal. We are working thru having 2 extra

people/strangers in our space. My wife and I are in frequent contact

with the Community Mental Health Representatives to help make the

program a successful one.

P.S. I thought Dr. gave very balanced advice for the information

she had.

Our County has approximately 30 Autistic individuals who will " at some

time " like Dr. mentioned possibly benefit from a group home type

situation. We have homes in our area that do a pretty good job at

watching over these very special people. We as parents see this as a

great opportunity for our son's to gain some sort of independance.

I am looking forward to the day where Seth & Noah say to me " Dad , My

Place-My Friend "

Sincerely,

Your Listmate
