Archive: http://www.feat.org/listarchive/ " Healing Autism: No Finer a Cause on the Planet " ____________________________________________________________ Ireland Reports No Autism Epidemic Wednesday, August 18, 1999 [The following report comes from Kathy, the secretary of Project Hope. Note that the tone is slightly flavored with with bitter spice of sarcasm.] It is official! The explosion of autism we in the Hope Project thought we saw all around us is fantasy. The Irish Minister for Health and Children has finally given us the figures. The North Easter Health Board has 1 autistic person in every 5566 population, less than 2 per 10,000. North Western 1 in 3303, South Eastern 1 in 7830...lets all move to Wexford! Southern Health Board 1 in 2954, still better than the 1970 rates. Western Health board 1 in 2175. Three Health Boards still to count. It was obviously my imagination that new families ring me every week in deep distress at their child's obvious slip into autism. Even better because Ireland has no autistic problem the government has no need to take action. The Department of Health's Chief Psychiatrist commented when shown the increase on autism on the California and British graphs that all the mothers are out at work. It gets better. We are now reveiwing the figures and will send out more information on Irelands clean bill of health as we have it prepared. OF course my son a DPT victim, diagnosed as Very Early Infantile Autism in USA is labeled Profoundly Mentally Handicapped here therefore he is not counted. Yours Kathy Sec.
