Guest guest Posted February 17, 2004 Report Share Posted February 17, 2004 A NETWORK OF NGOs WORKING IN HIV/AIDS FIELD INITIATIVES OF HIV/AIDS NET(IHN) was launched in Chennai recently to undertake concerted efforts to consolidate the gains of the past and to construct the future strategies to respond to the existing and emerging needs. A pronounced need is to intensify the campaign, lobbying and policy advocacy efforts to influence the Government and Donor agencies to evolve pro-PLHA policies incorporating the expertise of the NGOs. This is possible only if the NGOs working in the field of HIV/AIDS join together on a broad based understanding and common minimum programme. Keeping this in mind we are inviting you to be a member of this network. AIMS & OBJECTIVES OF IHN: (a) To strengthen the NGOs working in the field of HIV/AIDS in the whole of India. ( To develop a strong network in the whole of India. © To initiate mutual sharing of expertise. (d) To promote the lobbying and advocacy related to HIV/AIDS issues. (e) To promote code of conduct among the network NGOs. (f) To develop and strengthen the partnership with donor agencies and to provide support by identifying appropriate NGOs to implement their programmes. (g) To function as a resource agency for effective implementation of the projects. (h) To assess the specific needs, develop training module, identify appropriate resource persons and plan for the follow-up training for NGOs. (i) To initiate efforts for enabling environment for NGO partners from effective implementation of the projects. (j) To develop training and resource centre for the NGOs working in the field of HIV/AIDS. (k) To work towards need and demand based issues which will strengthen the NGO activities and to empower the NGOs. (l) To promote and organize regional and state level federations affiliated to this network. (m) To undertake studies and research and disseminate information on HIV/AIDS. (n) To represent and initiate dialogue with donor / govennment / international and relevant agencies. (o) To mobilize adequate resources for the sustainability of the network. (p) The Trust will concentrate its attention on general policy matters, on individual matters of paramount importance, by reasonable consensus, as may warrant its intervention and for co-ordination. (q) The Trust will concentrate its attention to ensure that the NGOs working in the field of HIV/AIDS are provided every information that should be available to them from Government / Non - Government Institutions, Judiciary, Professionals and other public bodies. Selection criteria for Membership of NGO: 1.Minimum 2 years experience in HIV/AIDS field. 2.It should be registered under Society or Trust Act. 3.It should not be black listed by any of the funding agencies including Govt. / Any other agencies. 4.The Membership will be approved by the Trustees of IHN. 5.The representative of the NGO should be the chief functionary or any one of the board member.
