Dear Forum,

The US Population Reference Bureau & UNAIDS data on India states:

http://hivinsite.ucsf.edu/global?page=cr08-in-00#S9X

Population (millions), mid-2002 1049.5

a) Adults age 15-49 with HIV/AIDS, 2001 3,800,000

B) New HIV infections, 2001 nd

c) Adult HIV prevalence (%), 2001 0.8

d) Women age 15-49 with HIV/AIDS, 2001 1,500,000

e) Children with HIV/AIDS, 2001 170,000

f) AIDS orphans (ages 0-14), 2001 nd

g) AIDS deaths, 2001 nd

nd = No data

A (October 1, 1999) BBC story about underestimation of deaths from AIDS, and

attribution of deaths to other causes

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/462485.stm

I'm curious as to why the UN site has annual death data for many

nations, but no data for India. Does anyone have data on the number of deaths,

per year, and/or total, from hiv/aids in India?

Boston, Massachusetts, USA
