Re: Doing India Proud by generic drug makers

Dear FORUM,

To make India proud, how about voluntarily issuing licences to local companies?

How about introducing differentiated packaging for cheaper drugs meant for

developing nations, instead of citing — as a reason for inadequate action —

fears about their diversion to European and American markets?

There is one point which worries me:-

All of us in India know that spurious drugs that are made in plenty without any

twinge of consciousness; Crocin or any paracetamol if spuriously will only not

reduce the fever: imagine the ARVs if not efffective, the destiny of those who

are being treated with it. It will be a question of their life depending on

these drugs.

We should be careful about leaving the field open to corrupt and unethical

pharmaceutical companies.
