Oh Deb, I have no words to say to you...what you are going through is very

unfair the memories of your dad's suffering I know only add to the fear and

frustration..but your path may not be the same...you are in my thoughts

daily...keep those Chicago thoughts spinning...remember the concerts in the

park...I was the one sitting on the horse statute in the park....marge

Hi Deb,

I'm so glad you're home and feeling optimistic. You really need to get some

rest this weekend. You've been through so much.

Sending tons of love your way,

Carol

Hi all,

I have returned home once again with a very clean knee. No sign of

infection

and my C reactive protein has gone down to the normal range. Sed rate is

still elevated but the real infection seems to be subsiding.

I am extremely tired and weak (5 surgeries in 6 weeks), but very optimistic.

Thank you all for your good wishes and prayers.

Hi Deb,

Glad you are home and there is no sign of infection. Hope you can just rest

and each day feel better. Being with your family is the best medicine.

Hi Carol,

Thank you for your kind wishes for my contiued recovery. It has been a very

long and rough road to try to get back my ability to walk. At times, , I

have receved very few encouragement letters, so this has been extra special

for me and coming from you, makes them all the more heartfelt. I do believer

that I have made the correct decision in this instance and can now see the

glass is half full instead of half of empty. I just have to be patient,

which has NEVER been my srong suit!!!! LOL.

Please let me know when the stork makes his delivery and I pray that our Lord

keeps a watchful eye over Mom and the new baby. I also pray that He keeps

another little wish to watch you, my dear sweet friend, for a safe trip. I,

too, will be going on no mail, perhaps permanently, so PLEASE try to keep in

touch!

I love you, my friend. Please feel better!

Debs,

I¹m so glad you¹re back home and hope this time it is for good. You¹ve been

through enough. It sounds like you¹re on the road to recovery and you sure

do deserve it. It sounds very encouraging especially your lab results.

Your body has been in a major battle and it will take awhile to get your

strength back. You need lots of R & R. I hope the pain is tolerable and

you can now get some sleep.

Shirl,

I will keep you and your daughter in my prayers. I¹m glad that your RA is

under control with your meds. I¹ve heard that the doctors were considering

giving Enbrel more often than twice a week, but you're the first that I¹ve

heard of getting more than twice. I¹m happy it is working for you.

I dunno know. She called yesterday and said that her Mom wanted to have a

little party for her and she was planning to take off early this afternoon.

She has a college test tomorrow that she HAS to be home for. Maybe Aunt

Blabbie's hearing is also going along with the other body parts. Oh well,

why not celebrate a birthday month? Maybe you get more presents that

way???????

Enjoy your evening!

BBL,

I have to state that I find this to be quite lame, but here is part of the

hypothesis from their site.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

<SNIP> Also, the Board has been monitoring the emerging body of evidence related

to the immune system and its interactive messengers: interleukins and cytokines.

It appears that a dysregulated immune system state, whether triggered by a

virus, genetic disposition, intrauterine, prenatal, neonatal stress or trauma,

may account for the cognitive processing and other deficits seen in some

children with autism. This concept is supported by the lack of consistent

neurological/anatomical abnormalities and metabolic abnormalities in these

children. >>>We now know that neuro-polypeptides called cytokines can and do

restrict brain blood flow under certain conditions. In these children, we may be

looking at an immune system continually sending out signals to restrict brain

blood flow. <<<Whether this continues as an " auto-immune " reaction (whereby the

immune system continues this pathway with no active reason to do so) or is due

to the presence of a retro-viral or other viral process is open to further

research. However, the concept of an immune-related disease process in a large

number of these children appears unquestionable at this point in time. <SNIP>

http://www.nids.net/hypothesis.htm

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't think you could account for autistic symptoms solely by CNS blood flow,

it is just my opinion, and instead I consider that cytokines in excess as a

result of persistant infection (or perhaps auto-immune disorder) can act on, and

share second messengers that are used in neurotransmission, and influence

cellular processes and gene expression. Just to be clear, I do agree that

circulation might well be altered.

Hi,

Thanks for the great article. Once again, I'd love to hear from anyone with

an idea re what transpires after the autoimmune response? What are the

things that actually may occur to lead those of us to have an aautism

spectrum disorder? thanks- BBL

Doris,

Please keep us posted on what happens. I can understand them wanting to

avoid paying for a bunch of phone calls for doctors in your area but if there

is no other doctor anywhere near you that can help it seems they may be

somehow talked into making an exception in some legitimate cases.

Hi Kathy,

I saw that book review on the about.com site, and followed the link and

ordered it. I think it looks really interesting. I'll let you know

how it is after I get it and read it.

How are you doing?

Love and hugs,

Carol

Is it human nature for people to always want what they don't have? For

disabled and chronically ill persons, the question is more complicated.

The

limitations imposed by disability steal away normalcy, even to the point

of

people being unable to work. What happens to their confidence? Does it

erode

rapidly when they are not working?

In the Spotlight

<A HREF= " http://glclk.about.com/?zi=8/GWD " >I'd Rather Be Working</A>

Book Review: It has been said that a person's self-esteem and self-worth

are

tied to their work. Imagine then what happens to good feelings about

" self "

when one becomes unable to work. More than 60 million Americans of

working-age live with a chronic illness or disability which makes

getting or

keeping a job very difficult. The vast majority of this group would

rather be

working than unemployed or underemployed.

i went to my rheumi yesterday, we are not going to change anything. despite

my few minor setbacks i have decided to keep going forward. this last weekend

being home and sick reminded me just what my life was like this time last year.

i wrote a 4 page letter to my dr about how miserable my life was. she is

suggesting i get another nerve conduction study on my legs as my feet and legs

have been going numb about to my knees. i told her i think it's from sitting at

the desk and i try to put my feet up as often as possible.she is thinking

peripheral neuropathy. i was checked with that before and was ok. so now to

find

one that will accept medicare. i am also following up with my gyne next

tuesday about the bleeding. it's time for another period, or not.....kathy in il

Kathy,

It's to bad your parents are going back to Florida. Have you ever

considered moving to Florida with them?

I hope your pay issues have been resolved. Shame on that doctor! He

belongs on 's " Doctor's " I'd Like To Kick " list. I hope you feel

better soon. Maybe you'd better get that hip x-rayed if it feels out of

place. I hope you tell your doctor how the prednisone is affecting you. I

can't see them increasing it when it makes you feel like this.

Patty and I are probably the oldest ones on here, maybe Rogene and

Dimonds, but she may have used other nicknames hee hee, sorry to give

you away girl! ha, anyhow we have not all known eachother all that

long, but mostly we have supported each other through surgeries and

common illness that has bonded us together. Patty and I have a very

special relationship, as she was the very first woman who told me the

implants were making me ill, I read her story and just about passed

out, it was just like me. Anyhow that was way back when this group

was founded. I love it and will always feel a bond with the women

here.
