Guest guest
I believe I read on this list, some time ago, that the methylation pathway is responsible for converting creatine to creatinine (I think there had been a discussion on this list regarding the use of creatine as a supplement, and I think - but am not sure - that this info might have been in a post from Rich) So if one has a methylation block, then any creatine would not be converted to creatinine as it normally would? Does this mean, therefore, that the creatinine test value could be very low (or a false normal value) if the patient has a methylation block? Given the situation of a diabetic who gets periodic creatinine measurements to assess the kidney function: if the diabetic has a methylation block, then the creatinine value will not be a true indicator of kidney function, right? So a supposedly normal creatinine test value might NOT indicate normal kidney function? (i.e., lack of kidney damage) What other tests could be used, whose results would NOT be dependent upon a properly functioning system?
