Dear Forum,

It is very sad and disappointing that sex workers are

subjected to such violence in Kerala. May be, we need

a campaign to dispel the stigma and discrimination

against sex wrokers. To start with we have to know

what is the reason behind this violence against them?

Is it their insistence to use condom or refusing

clients who do not want to use it or the misconception

that they are the reason behind the AIDS epidemic in

Kerala or other factors? Has there been any study on

these issues? I would also be interested in knowing if

this level of violence against them also exists in

other states?
