Guest guest
Hiya all My late son took AEDs for years, including phenobarbital, dilantin, LAMICTAL, depakote, felbutol, neurontin and a couple of others I that do not remember.... AEDs and some other drugs lower the CNS sensitivity, his neurologist told me. This sensitivity change may well make it possible for the bladder to retain more urine than is excreted. Only an ultrasound test can determine urine retention as it is asymptomatic. My son was experiencing UTIs which did not respond to anything for more than a few days. An ultrasound determined his output was 300 cc (about normal) and he retained 1,100 cc... a huge amount. Attempts to reduce the stretched bladder required straight catheterizing every 3hours 24/7 with controlled fluid intake and drugs like Macrobid (which he did not do well on) and Bactrim. It did not work. When a urologist finally did a cystoscope in May 2004, a tumor was discovered. Surgeries and other therapies and interventions were not successful. He died May 14, 2005, three years after the first UTI was identified. At least by that time, he was on very small doses of AEDs and lots of supplements and dietary stuff with significantly decreased seizure activity. You can see my sweet son Charlie here, if you'd like. _http://foxhillfarm.us/ParmaLoanCloset/_ (http://foxhillfarm.us/ParmaLoanCloset/) mjh " The Basil Book " http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/
