Guest guest
Hi I have been told to take folic acid every day except the day you take MTX. And 2 tablets the next day to help with the sickness. It seems some docs. prefer their patients to take it differently perhaps you could ask your doc again. Good luck Joan U.K.
Guest guest
Guys, thank you for the responses and reassurances. I felt a bit queasy for a couple of days, but nothing unbearable. And I still have hair, Marty! lol I've taken 1mg of folic acid every day except the day I took the MTX, and I see the doc in a couple of weeks, so I'll check then. I see it usually takes over a month to kick in, eh? As for the French, je la comprends, normalement, mais je ne la parle pas tres bien. Guest guest
Dear Ellen, Your email really hit home with me,on so many levels. I transferred from the ER to the Recovery Room,at the same hospital I've been working at for 14 years. I was excited about a new environment, learning new things, meeting new people. But stress has always been my Achilles heel. When I started I was already a month late on my Rituxan, stopped MTX to lessen side effects with the Rituxan. All was going well, and in my 5th week of orientation the flare that had been trying to get my attention, finally knocked me on my ass. Every joint became enormous, high fever, rash, you name it! So I finally start taking prednisone, which I absolutely cannot stand. It helps, but I have placed myself squarely behind the 8 ball. My rheumatologist is thrilled about my new job,but tells me I need to stay home and off my feet. Sorry honey,I cant. Did I mention that its a NEW job, trying to make a good impression with the other nurses, show that I'm dependable. I finally put my stupid pride away, and asked for a script for forearm crutches. They help a lot,but I was certainly not planning on introducing my friend " Stills " to my new co-workers quite yet. I had a little melt-down at work. Something a long the lines of, " This wasn't supposed to happen now,you guys weren't supposed to see me like this until much later in our relationship! " . And then I finally realized that they supported me,cared about me,and wanted to help however they could. What a blessing! So last friday I got some Solumedrol 1000mg IV,and in a few days my right hip and knee were quieting down.Yesterday I got another infusion,so that the left hip and knee will chill out. My knee looks hysterical,it bulges way out the back. And its swollen from my calf,to 6 inches above my knee. I haven't been able to straighten it in weeks, but I have high hopes! Its so easy to meander down into the depths of darkness and despair, and the steroids don't help with that. At least not for me. A little euphoria would be welcome! Everyone at work was making jokes that I'd come back to work running in circles. The scary part is that the only noticeable side effect from the Solumedrol today,is severe stomach pain, nausea, headache, with a little shakiness. I guess I should have gotten the Solumedrol weeks ago. Live and learn! My partner,Darya has been amazing and supportive. Our house full of critters always helps with the blues. We have 4 10wk old kittens, and their mama. And kittens are just hysterical. One has fallen in love with our female Rottweiler, and sleeps with her. He also tries to nurse from her, which she tolerates. Although she always looks at me with a confused expression. She grooms him several times a day,and he goes to Piper instead of his own mama. Sorry this was so long.I just hadn't had the energy to respond to anyones postings. I wish everyone well that has been having a hard time. And may those burdens begin to lift! Guest guest
Nissa darling, I'm so glad you were able to find a comfortable place to be for work, even though you flare is so bad. Being honest with your co-workers is an amazing relief sometimes, isn't it? I'm also happy you've found some relief. I don't know what Solumdrol is but if it works, keep it going. Personally, I wouldn't be able to put up the side effects you named but more power to you, love. I'm trying to find a pain killer right now, that works and doesn't make me loopy(er) other than hydrocodone. It seems after all these years I'm reacting very badly with it (paralysis of the throat) and by the way, Toredol doesn't do squat for relieving anything! OK, back to you. There are other little things, silly as they may sound, that might help in boosting your spirits. " Little Victories " is a biggy with me. Every successful act done, i.e. brushing your teeth, putting on underwear, walking to the car all deserve little " Yeah " s out loud. Anything you can think of that you've accomplished all deserve a vocal cheer. I'm telling you, you'll feel silly at first but you wouldn't believe how it lifts your spirits. Going back to work not only deserves a little victory but also a big one! Buy yourself some flowers, allow yourself a few more minutes of rest keeping in mind what the reward is for. I'm very proud of you! Keep smiling (your face won't break I promise you) and keep up the fantastic work. And the next time someone asks how you are, tell them you're FABULOUS! It's true, you know. Hug every soul in your house for me. Ricky and Lucy (my other " kids " ) would love to play with your four legged family one day. Take care and be well. Guest guest
Nissa, Good to hear from you again, though not of the flare. That is terrible! I am glad you are beginning to feel better. And that you are in a supportive job. And of course your wonderful partner. How has she been doing? I love the story about your kittens and the rottie. How cute is that! houston, TX
Guest guest
Dear Nissa, I'm just in total amazement at your fortitude and attitude. You hang in there girl. I'm sorry you've so much to deal with but so happy that your co-workers have rallied round and are helping you get through. I'm not your doctor but might it be time to have that knee aspirated? From the sounds of it, it sounds like the inflammation is out of hand. Well dear, I just wanted to lend my support for you and your days. Lots of hugs, P.S. You go with those platform crutches, they are great aren't they? _____ On Behalf Of nissa penland Subject: RE: Re: discouraged? Guest guest
Nissa, So good to hear from you, our television star. Wish it was just to convey happy updates to your life, which you at least were able to convey. (loved the kitty story) I hope things settle out and quiet down. I had a " steroid pulse " 2 times several years ago (1000mg Solumedrol) and WOW, could not agree more on the hit you take. I do not know about you, but my face turned glow in the dark red about 6 hours after. And the major mood swing the next day, " whoa, stay outa my way " . Luckily, I have a cast iron stomach and nothing ever bothers it. You take care and keep in touch with the good things as they happen, too. Tom > >wanted to help however they could. What a blessing!
