Just because he is not effected by the mites, doesn't mean there is not a problem at your home. If you cannot talk to him about this, then who can you talk to? I don't suggest that you always remain upbeat. Afterall, you are SUFFERING. And he is not. If he is your true significant other, then you should be able to share anything with him. I would not worry about driving him away. If you feel he is being driven away, or that he talks to you about leaving, well, then it is time for him to leave.
