Guest guest
We first cleaned our rooms with a vacuum. Then we got a bucket of water mixed with Clorox. About 1 cup to a quart of water. We wiped this all over everything we thought could stand the Clorox. Then we put highly concentrated salt water, about 1 cup per pint in a spray bottle and sprayed everything down with this solution. Looking back I see that it was the vacuuming that paid off along with changing the plastic on our beds and pillows fairly often. I put clean trash bags on our pillows every day and replaced the plastic covering on our beds as needed, about once to twice a month. If you can't rip out the carpet under your bed then go to Wal-Mart and get some of that heavy painters plastic and put this over your carpet and tape it down to your baseboards. With this over the carpet you can clean and Clorox or mop with Windex. I bought one of those Clorox Ready mops that I kept refilling the bottle with Windex. I vacuumed and mopped my floors everyday with this. I wish there was an easier way but I never found one. Keep trying and hopefully you will get to the end of this nightmare. Guest guest
Thank you Rita, If I put down the painters drop cloth, what happens to the ones in the carpet - just die off eventually. I actually thought of doing this but didn't know how it would work. So the salt helps but the clorax works better. Lou From: trlyblest <trlyblest (DOT) com>Subject: Re: paw pawbird mitesDate: Monday, June 30, 2008, 1:49 PM I read the latter part of Lou's post to my grandmother this morning. I thought she would find it interesting as it pertained to Paw Paws. (one of her favorite fruits) She said that the paw paw seeds are supposed to have natural insecticidal properties. Helps to control lice etc... >> Hello Lou, I glad to see you on this site. We all feel sort of like family here. I haven't read any thing about paw paw but with this mess anything is worth a try. I fought it for a little over 2 years and the only thing I found that worked was Clorox and a high concentration of salt water. Cleaning is a nightmare but I have found if I don't do it I pay. > > So good to have you on the site. Lets all keep racking our brains and maybe we will stumble on the silver bullet. Guest guest
Yes, I think the Clorox does the main killing. The salt seems to dry them up as the days go by. If you cover the carpet up in your bedroom you will most likely have to leave that over the carpet for at least a year. I have read where some of these mites can sit and wait for over a year without feeding. Ugh......Rita (unknown)> > > I just checked and I'm on the web site. Guest guest
Lou, Try mixing the Clorox with the Epsom salts together. (Rita's mix!) It works wonders! You should notice a marked difference within a few days. That's what finally killed them off for us. Hope it works for you as well. > > Thank you Rita, > If I put down the painters drop cloth, what happens to the ones in the carpet - just die off eventually.
