Guest guest
I spent the last 2 hours cutting and pasting a lot of good info from past posts of people who used Cedarcide. I will paste it here for you for direct access. CEDARCIDE: I can answer this in another week. I used the fogger on my mother's place last Sunday, but I won't know how effective it is for a few more days, since it takes about 10 days to do its thing. The fogger was a lot easier to use than the handheld sprayer, and I used considerably less product with the fogger -- it's more efficient. It also makes more sense to use the fogger if you have a lot of clutter and knick-knacks in your home. We don't have central AC or heat in our homes, so I just held the fogger and made sure the spray went all over the rooms. The most inconvenient thing is that the fogger has an electric cord (a short one). If you buy the fogger alone, it is $200. If you buy it as part of a package deal, the cost is about $150. You might also look into the PCO choice, which is more economical than the Best Yet because you dilute it with water. Myrtle > Joan & to anyone else who mat be interested, here is the list of Stuff used by our PCo. This combo really knocked 'em out. All we have left are a few stragglers that we're trying to get rid of now before any possible reinfestation. Demize CC <sp?> .03% Conc. 3oz. Suspend SC .06% Conc. 1.5oz. Precor IGR .0078% Conc. 1oz. Kicker .023% Conc. 3oz. per 1 gallon of water. The CedarCide works great it you apply it to everything - especially bedding, tops and bottoms of mattresses, box springs, frame, etc. Also, be sure to get it on ceilings, walls, floors etc and don't vacuum or mop for about 10-14 days. Also, it is good to reapply to bedding for a few days and yourself also before going to bed or in the yard. If you have fish be sure and protect the tank or it will kill them. We had very good luck with it. We applied it thru our a/c return air vents first for about 5 minutes, then sprayed everything else good. Close the rooms off after spraying and get away from the house for 2-3 hours and be sure and wear a good respirator (with filters in it) while applying. It is pretty strong at first but leaves an odor like a cedar chest after a few hours. The reason you don't vacuum or mop is to give it time to kill eggs and larvae. Also, if it is bird mites, you CAN see them if you look very close. They are about the size of a period at the end of this sentence. Good Luck. Joan Tim, the " Best Yet " spray is to be used as is. They have products for yards etc that have to be diluted. If anyone has appliances with pilot light in the area to be fogged it is advised to turn them off, otherwise no special precautions except covering food products. We did cover our toaster, coffeepot, computers and tvs and it worked fine. The main thing is to not vacuum or mop for at least 10 days to give spray time to kill eggs & larvae. We had activity for a few days after fogging but they got less and less every day until they were gone completely. Here is the response from Cedarcide on the flashpoint question: The Flash Point of the Best Yet is 159 degrees fairenheit. This product will not be able to be used in a thermal fogger. It works very well in a Non Thermal Cold Fogger or often known as a ULV Foggger machine. Hope this answeres your question. Dr. Ben Oldag askben@ ULV fogger: 1. Keep in mind the ULV particle size will be no smaller than 5 micron, which means it will not penetrate into fabrics very well. That is why a thermal fogger, with the smaller particle size is more effective, although it is more of a 'flash' hazard. 2. I don't know if the product mentions this, but most oil based products, and even water based, have a flash point at which an explosion can occur from a spark. That is why turning off the electricity and extenguishing gas pilot lights may be needed. (If you have any info on this product's flash point, maybe you could share it) 3. Try to spray in the evening when mites are more active, and there will be a better rate of success, versus the daytime. 4. Maybe a local PCO could rent you a ULV fogger for a day or two at a reasonable rate, as it is hard to justify buying this. (I had purchased a very good one when this first started, and nearly killed myself from the vapors, even though I had a NIOSH mask.) Continued success Myrtle, Tim
