Mel, I'm ahead of you since I already have hardwood floors in the bedroom. I can only hope they have not infested the curtains yet. Thanks for the suggestion about the sulfur cream. I have been thinking about our thread below and I wonder if the reason I couldn't get it out, even with a whole bottle of essential oils is because of that excellent post that explained how the mites breed with water. Perhaps the reason that bleach, salt, alcohol, and vacuuming work so well is because they dry them out.The more I worked with the oils, the black spots came out, but so did some tiny little red spots. There seemed to be zillions of them.I mean, I know oil is unlike water, but oil seemed to make the tiny red ones breed. What do you all think?Has there been anyone that had success getting rid of them using oils? --- iggydoll@... wrote:From: Mel <iggydoll@...>bird mites Subject: Re: Fannou nDate: Wed, 16 Jul 2008 15:43:27 -0700 (PDT)Yes, Pamela. I have used the Sergeants Nature's Guardian which contains peppermint oil, thyme oil, clove oil, etc. and if I take my pocketscope I can see very tiny tiny mites pop up from the skin on my hand. they move around a bit and then I think they die. they are so small, though, even with 60x magnification.melFrom: Fannou n <fannouj (DOT) com>Subject: Re: Fannou nbird mitesDate: Wednesday, July 16, 2008, 10:47 AMThank u. For lyme, i do have a wonderful and helpful dr. I am treated. For bugs, my dr can't help, she does know. She told me the things attached really seem like ticks, nymphs ticks as i describe and we were not able to take it off, and the others symptoms look like mites, as i see here....So crazy...I read and looked for chiggers, didn,t find a forum or infos telling it attached like a black thing on skin, so i just don't know...I did have pigeons going in a hole right upstair my room, a PCO man came, and didn't want to exterminate before knowing what it is, even if we tolf onlt mites and ticks feed on human, he is ridiculous!! So we move and we have to clan out things alone, all i wanted was an exterminataion before moveng, i know my owners just want the appartment to me free to clean easily. I am soo obsessed by that!!!!So Mites & ticks seem to have attacked my cat all at the same time & sure there is a tick infestation as we did have so many and even when the cat didn,t o outside for 1 month!Anyway, thanks to all! They are not known to live on human for their entire lifetime. Only one stage, the larval stage is known to occur on the human body and then it drops off into the environment. The proteins they inject into the skin to feed are what cause an intense itching and the itching is commonly associated to last up to two weeks in some cases.Ticks and mites are related. There are products in which are capable of killing both. If your environment is a problem, and you cannot due to your condition, treat and clean your environment, then is there anybody to help you? If not, then with an external infestation of whatever, that concerns us here. None of us here will be able to tell you what you have. Some birdmites are very very tiny and others can be seen with the naked eye. There are other types of mites in which seem to bother humans as well. Ratmites or Mousemites might be another consideration. I may of missed it, but you failed to mention any exposure factors such as, empty nests on or in your house or attic, trees resting on your home, mice in the basement, birdfeeders and houses near or on the house? Do you live in a wooded area, high rise, top floor? I think you did mention pigeons, but I failed to catch whether they are on your window sills, where do they nest and perch? Droppings? Venting issues? Rooftop rats? There are so many possibilities, we couldn't possibly tell you what you have, we can only guess too. Back to external mite infestations, there are many recommendations here for treating your environment. If you believe this is what is occuring then you must address it somehow fairly quickly. We can only relay to you what we have found has worked for some and how they did it.
