Guest guest
I realize that I am VERY lucky to be able to afford to try out some of the things I stumble on or read about here. One thing that I have been trying for those nights when I cannot get any peace is disposable sheets. They are made with a fabric like coating on one side that is not unpleasant to sleep on, and plastic on the other. They are described as " preventing strike-through " which tells me that someone in the medical field understands that bacteria are critters. And the plastic lining eliminates scent as well. I buy both twin bed sizes, the 102 " long ones for the bottom sheet (or I use a vellux blanket, whose foam composition also works for a while), and a 95 " one (cheaper) for a top sheet. They are affording me many more nights of restful sleep. I still " roll " (with the lint roller) the mattress coverings and the bedskirt (thoroughly sprayed to cut down on hopping up). I get the sheets from Medex.com. They are fairly expensive, but what is the value of a good night's sleep? Between the restless legs before the bugs, then (possibly due to the Sinemet, which depleted calcium and increased potassium, I have been sleep deprived since about 1982. Something I have thought little about till I just realized when the restless legs started is the fact that I married my ex in 1982 and he told me once, he had brought home " a little parasite " in his ears. Ptiris pubis, maybe? They like ears and other places with sparse hair. Then I started needing to fog the house a lot and he complained, saying he wasn't being bitten. So was it those, fleas, or ... we were also turkey hunters, and in the mid-80's I took my first turkey, against my better judgment posing for a photo with it slung over my shoulder, and then carrying it out without covering it. I distinctly remember the little red tick looking things running along its body to me, escaping the cooling carcass of the turkey for a warmer meal. And yet I thought that I could rid myself of anything that got on me by simply showering, and by washing my clothes. Obviously not. It's funny how many things come back as I read all of your posts, things that seemed insignificant at the time they occurred, but that in context of what we are dealing with seem sinister... katiejill
Guest guest
You still have a bed skirt on your Bed!!?? We took ours off and put the bed on those extensions (4 " high) that are designed to raise the bed so you can store more stuff under it. We have nothing under our bed. Why make it easier for the bugs to get to you? Each leg of the bed has vicks vaporub spread on it, as well as sticky flypaper. We also spray orange cleaner around each leg every 3 days. We put DE in the carpet in the bedroom so don't have to vacuum everyday. We don't get bit a night. > > I realize that I am VERY lucky to be able to afford to try out some > of the things I stumble on or read about here. > > One thing that I have been trying for those nights when I cannot get > any peace is disposable sheets.
