Washing clothes and microwaving questions

Hi y'all,

I'm reading about microwaving clothes with much interest and wonder.

When I was a kid, I opened up a can of corn and microwaved it. A

few minutes later, the can was on fire (very hot, metal was on

fire!) and the microwave never worked after that. That's probably

one of the most stupid things I ever did in my life.

Anyway, I'm reading that you should cover metal parts of clothes

with cloth... so that's it? That makes it safe? Do y'all microwave

jeans?

Also, does microwaving cause shrinking?

And some questions on washing colored/dark clothes:

- Does ammonia/borax cause fading? I'd hate for my fav dark clothes

or jeans from fading (or shrinking for that matter!)

- where can I get ammonia? Walmart?
