Guest guest
Stan many people are trying all sort of things. In the beginning we loaded our home down with a very fine sulfur powder. We put it every where. We used it on our bodies. It was made by Bonide and was 90% sulfur. Since it was such a fine powder we could mix it with lotions and our bodies were covered in it. It seemed to work like other substances. It made us feel some what better but it didn't keep them off us. We lived in a sulfur house for 8 months, close to a year. Every crack and crevice was full of sulfur. We did not see a turn around until we started using a very high concentration of salt water. 2 cups of Epsom salt to one pint of water poured onto the skin and then blow dried on. This used with straight Clorox squirted into a wash cloth that is very soapy with dawn dish soap worked well. I sprayed my house down with the Clorox and salt water mixture and we felt less and less activity. Then we thought we had beat the things. I opened a storage bin and the things came running out. We were infested again. Our car has been a major headache. We started running the dehumidifiers 22 days ago in our car and in our house and we think this has made a difference. So for our skin, the salt, Clorox and olive oil seemed to work the best. When we feel the things actually crawling up our arms or legs from an infected area the Raid ant and roach spray kills them off our skin instantly. We are seeing improvement in our car ...or better said...after 2 years something different is being noticed in our car from running the dehumidifier. As with everything that people are trying, time will tell. I wish you luck and keep posting......we all need to hear what is working and what isn't . Rita sulphur soap Can anyone fill me in on your experiences with using sulfur-based soap?I can't seem to find any soap in this lousy arsed country that has more than 3% of precipitated sulfur as one of it's ingredients. So far it isn't helping to keep the bird mites off of me.Does sulfur work directly on the mites or do they discourage them by getting rid of fungus and/or fungi infection? Guest guest
Wow Rita i didnt know this, i was planning on treating the baby with olive oil/vaseline and sulfer. I thought the sulfer would be a cure. Do you think the sulfer and olive oil/vaseline will be enough?? > > Stan many people are trying all sort of things. Guest guest
The use of sulfur might help repel the things. Holly, we even took that Sulfur 8 hair treatment ....we bought out all Wal-Mart had on the shelves......and added tablespoonfuls of the sulfur powder to it. It sort of helped a little but I still think the reason we had such failure in the first 2 years was the inability to control the environment. After we pulled our carpets out and sprayed every thing down with the Clorox and salt we started to see lower numbers of the things. I am hoping that the dehumidifiers are working for more and more people. I have spent so many long nights trying to get my head around this nightmare and no matter which angle I came at it, the environment was the trouble. We have to lower the numbers and eventually kill them off. I'm hoping and praying that the low humidity will be the help we have all been looking for. Guest guest
Thanks Rita for the encouragement and all the invaluable info you provided, i running through all the past posts as we speak, hopefully i can get closer to the end of the rainbow and hit gold. I will be posting a list of things both me and the wife did - what worked and what didn't - soon, when an ultrasound device from the UK had ran it's course of a 2week trial. > > Stan many people are trying all sort of things. Guest guest
Hi Stan, The ultasound device sounds intriguing. I wonder if these things would respond to different frequencies either positively or negatively? Maybe we could drive them out with sound!! (Maybe by playing loud opera or rap music??? LOL!) It is certainly worth a try! Keep us posted on your interesting experiment and good luck with that, too! Wouldn't that be great if it works! Guest guest
I got a $400 harmonic qad zapper from Overmans healthy choices, and it is supposed to kill parasites with a frequency. I used it for a time with some results, but no cure. > > > > > > Stan many people are trying all sort of things. In the beginning > we loaded our home down with a very fine sulfur powder. Guest guest
For most of the day I have worked in a room at 92 degrees (ceiling fan running flat out) and 37% humidity. I really think the dehumidifiers are helping. But so are my knee high rubber boots!!! I tuck my jeans in those suckers and what would normally fall off me, then crawl right back on my feet, now goes " rubber, yuck! Guest guest
Dee, The one i'm using is the AllerDMC from Medi-Direct (http://www.medi-direct.co.uk/allerdmc.html), which throws out 40khz of ultrasound at varying tones. It apparently disrupts their nervous system and annoys them to the point of not wanting to eat or reproduce. I had 2 cranked for about a week now 24/7 - 1 in the bedroom and another in the closet (to help reduce the mites that might get into the clothes from the environment). Results had been lukeworm so far i am afraid (well if this bombs, more money down the pooper for me). Then again, i hadn't left it running long enough to tell the difference. Presently there are 2 types of electronic repellents: 1. Ultrasound Devices (like the AllerDMC i'm using) - bounces off but cannot pierce through walls. gets absorbed by fabric/sound absorbent objects, thus it would logically not work for those critters that are deep burrowed into mattresses and etc. 2. EMF emitters - amplifies itself through wiring via subsonic level at 50-60khz, could get through walls and covers a wider expanse. I got this initially and it's more expensive - this however had been confirmed to not work for me after a 2week long test. 1 more week to go before i return to the mattress in the bedroom (i am presently sleeping on a temporal mat at the study - yep, they didn't want to leave me alone there too). If i don't get covered by tons of bite marks on my back upon waking, i'd presume that it worked. > > > > > > Stan many people are trying all sort of things. Guest guest
I forgot to mention that i am using mite proof covers on our queen-sized bed that is washed weekly at hi temp, no comforters, no sheets - just the mite proof coverings. So if the device works, at the very least it will get those buggers dancing on top of them. I am realistically looking at lower populations rather than outright eradication. If the numbers go down, this will prove to be an invaluable investment. *crossing my fingers* > > > > > > > > Stan many people are trying all sort of things. Guest guest
I know the sulphur question has come and gone....but I wanted to add that I agree with Rita, it did help, we used it for a month, and it does make a difference, but I am not sure that it is enough on its own, to do the job. z p.s. I also burnt my little girls skin terribly by its over use, even though I had diluted it WAY down on them....so Holly if your reading this them go heavy with your olive oil and very light on the sulfur on baby. Guest guest
Rita, I have never asked, are you able to get the Epsom salts to dissolve in the water and what do you do during the day when you have to be around people? So far my salty day I was " dropping crystals " all day, literally shaking them out of my pants legs and shedding them from my long sleeves! It was pretty funny, but also something I couldn't explain to people in a meeting scheduled that day :-) Oh well! If that is what it takes! They already think I'm weird. Guest guest
Hi Stan, Thanks for the information. That is very interesting. As many of us have experienced using different products whether on the skin or in the environment, that it seems to take a long time before we see progress. That for me is the hardest part of this....how to really assess if something is working since it could take awhile before seeing good results. I find that if I give it a good month and there are not any significant changes, then I move onto the next solution. I sure hope you start to see good results with the equipment. Are you able to vary the frequencies on that device? I think I read where different mites are affected at different khz? Lady Dee > > > > > > > > Stan many people are trying all sort of things. Guest guest
Dee, There is no option to adjust the frequency range on this device unfortunately. It appears that everything on it is hardcoded. Having Ran the DMC for a week, it appears that the bird mites are not affected by it so far. I took to the mattress in the bedroom earlier for about 10 seconds and almost immediately got stung. I did however notice a significant reduction in dust. I reckoned that the source you've read about different mites being affected by different frequencies is correct, though 40khz is around the range of " hearing " for fleas, ticks and mites. Tolerance level for different species within their own orders might vary. > > > > > > > > > > Stan many people are trying all sort of things. Guest guest
LMAO. Rap music to drive them out. Wow, i think that would drive me out too. Depending on the rap. I would have to go get some ear plugs w/ my Limp Biscuit Album so that I could keep my sanity. Also I the mites learn to mimic folks let hope we don't teach them street smarts, Yo. On that note I am out of the hizzie, Dogs. J. From: Stan Loe <storms@...>Subject: Re: sulphur soapbird mites Date: Monday, October 13, 2008, 7:56 PM Dee,The one i'm using is the AllerDMC from Medi-Direct (http://www.medi- direct.co. uk/allerdmc. html), which throws out 40khz of ultrasound at varying tones. It apparently disrupts their nervous system and annoys them to the point of not wanting to eat or reproduce.I had 2 cranked for about a week now 24/7 - 1 in the bedroom and another in the closet (to help reduce the mites that might get into the clothes from the environment) . Results had been lukeworm so far i am afraid (well if this bombs, more money down the pooper for me). Then again, i hadn't left it running long enough to tell the difference.Presently there are 2 types of electronic repellents:1. Ultrasound Devices (like the AllerDMC i'm using) - bounces off but cannot pierce through walls. gets absorbed by fabric/sound absorbent objects, thus it would logically not work for those critters that are deep burrowed into mattresses and etc.2. EMF emitters - amplifies itself through wiring via subsonic level at 50-60khz, could get through walls and covers a wider expanse. I got this initially and it's more expensive - this however had been confirmed to not work for me after a 2week long test.1 more week to go before i return to the mattress in the bedroom (i am presently sleeping on a temporal mat at the study - yep, they didn't want to leave me alone there too). If i don't get covered by tons of bite marks on my back upon waking, i'd presume that it worked.> > >> > > Stan many people are trying all sort of things. Guest guest
Hi Stan, I have found that sulfur is more helpful for internal use. I have even started giving it to the ratties too now that I know it is safe. It helps but like others have said make sure you are treating the environment to and you most likely will notice bigger results with it. J. J. From: Stan Loe <storms@...>Subject: sulphur soapbird mites Date: Monday, October 13, 2008, 12:17 PM Can anyone fill me in on your experiences with using sulfur-based soap?I can't seem to find any soap in this lousy arsed country that has more than 3% of precipitated sulfur as one of it's ingredients. So far it isn't helping to keep the bird mites off of me.Does sulfur work directly on the mites or do they discourage them by getting rid of fungus and/or fungi infection? Guest guest
Yo dawg, how's about Metallica? Guest guest
Thats a great start. I figure we add some Slayer to that and then top it off with some Demui Borgger If I even spelled that right. We call them Demi Bugger anyway just because its easier to pronounce. But after all that they would be in head bangers comma for sure. Lol. Waynes World!!! Party time!!! Ecellant!!! Damn I am having to much fun. J. Guest guest
Metallica's too slow. Even their thrash fans are gone by now. Metal won't work, Black Metal is too symphonic, Deathcore and Grind is incoherent rather than loud. Bring on the REAL heavy metals: Proto/Classic Industrial! Einsturzende Neubauten and SPK. No disco booty wigglers like EBM! BANG ON IT! > > > > > > > > Stan many people are trying all sort of things. In the beginning > > we loaded our home down with a very fine sulfur powder.
