Hi ,

Below I copied and pasted a message that I put on a different group a

month or so ago. I edited it a bit though.

UVC LAMPS/SPOTLIGHTS

PROBLEM AREA(S) SOLVED:

I find that Mites in a room or on your body

will die when they are exposed to UVC radiation.

DIRECTIONS:

I leave it on in an unoccupied room that is NOT CARPETED

(does not work in a carpeted area because mites hide in the carpet).

I also expose my body to the UVC light to eliminate mites on the skin

surface, as long as I take necessary precautions like protecting my

eyes.

When Treating A Room:

- It's safest to use an extension cord and close the room door before

plugging the extension cord in outside of the room.

- It's best to have two UVC lamps, one on each side of the room.

- At first, rooms will need to be treated a number of times spread

apart. After that you can walk in the room unaffected by mites as

long as your body is decontaminated to start with. Very effective!

When Treating My Body:

- I wear shaded speedo swimming goggles with opaque tape on them and

small holes in the tape to see. Then I put cheap mirror finish

sunglasses over the goggles for furthar protection. I also try to

close my eyes when I don't need to look around. Welding googles would

probably be more ideal.

- I sweep the UVC lamp up and down my naked body, particularly where

I am feeling itchy.

- A safe alternative to using UVC light on your body is a hot shower

and effective soap.

CAUTION:

- The UVC rays are extremely harmful to your eyes and will do damage

in seconds. I think you can go blind after extended exposure.

-Do not let lamp bulb touch anything, because that will reduce its

life.

EFFECTIVENESS:

4/5. I find the UVC lamp extremely effective for killing mites that

are not hiding behind something.

Note that the lamps have to emit light in the UVC spectrum. UVA or

UVB won't do!

SOURCE/COST

- $30 to $200 on ebay for a UVC germicidal furnace lamp or aquarium

sterilizing UV lamp (needs modification - ask me how I modified mine

if you want to do it this way). Do an ebay search on " UV AQUARIUM "

and " UV FURNACE " . Choose lamps with higher wattage (IE 18 W or more).

- $300 for UVC flood lamp (see

http://www.uvlp.ca/portable_uv_sterilizer.htm )
