For those that like to pray...

My sister told me about Saint Rocco, the patron saint of pestilence. My sister,

mother and I

prayed to Saint Rocco everyday. We prayed for the bird mites to go away and for

me to be

able to make it through the infestation.

Thank you so much for your information. I now realize that the

diatomacious earth helped me more than anything else that i have

tried. And its so easy, just dust it around. SOme of my stuff still

has it on it from Texas!! And it is those things that are not

infested. Im getting some here as fast as possible!! I think that is

why it took so long for my son to start having symptoms....i was

using d-earth and stopped!! The Saint Rocco information is

intriguing, im not really a religious person, but i will try this. I

have heard of great miracles from praying to the Saints. Thanks.

If anyone wants to know where to order the D-earth its is at

yardiac.com, in the organic pesticides section, and it is CHEAPPPP!!!

Good luck with the DE! Let us know how you make out with it! As you already

know, it

make take a few treatments...it took me about three treatments (over a three

week period)

to really notice a huge difference. I have had over a month of peace now and it

feels

great!! I hope to never have to deal with anything like this again... These

mites are

unbelievably hard to get rid of... I am still praying that they don't come

back... I have some

more DE just in case they do. :-)

Again, good luck and stay positive, you will get rid of them soon!!

For those using DE, do you have problems of them becoming airborne

and breathing them in, even if they are food grade? That's why I'm

not using DE so much (only in limited places around the house).

I dusted my car in the beginning with it and it seemed to have

helped but didn't knock them out and my lungs started to hurt so I

quit using it. I also applied to only very specific areas of the

house where I know the dust would not be airborne. FYI, my condo is

all hardwood so it's harder for the DE to get " trapped " in the

carpet and stay there. I dusted the floor around my desktop PC

before and my lungs started to hurt so I vacuumed it all up. It

seems no matter how careful you are, they will still become airborne

(more so b/c I have all hardwood?)

You could try what i did with the sock, and just shake it around. I

didnt even use a mask. I just held my breath, walked around the room

shaking the sock, and went to another room for a little bit. You can

even hit it on the bed, walls, ceiling...It makes a fine dust that

settles in about 15 minutes. It makes a light coating over

everything. That light coating doesnt come up as easily. I can still

see it around the perimeter of my room when i put it down when i

first got here. When it gets kicked around on the floor, you can just

reapply it. It looks terrible, but our buggies get their feet dusty

too!! It makes a huge difference. I have never used food grade, but

the kind i use never hurt my lungs.

I used a painters mask and safety googles when I applied the DE (I used a duster

can). I

applied the stuff liberally. You really need to let the DE settle before you

enter your condo.

I needed a few hours probably because I put a lot down. Since you have hardwood

floors

you don't need as much as carpet would need. Do a light dusting and leave for a

few

hours. I wouldn't turn on any ceiling fans while the DE is down on the floor.

Also, when

you put the DE down, make sure the A/C is off or turned down really low (same

for the

heating system). I changed my A/C filters each week while I was treating my

home. You

probably need to only treat the areas that you sit at a great deal. The computer

desk, the

kitchen/dining room table, the living room area, around your bed, etc. I would

also go

around the baseboards.

I did not use DE in my car because it is such a small space...and then it would

get into the

A/C unit and blow around the car. I made a mix of 60% alcohol (90% strength),

40% witch

hazel, and added tea tree oil (I added a lot...like 30 drops because I like tea

tree oil...but if

you don't like it reduce to about 15 drops). I would spray my car (floor,

ceiling, seats) each

time I got in the car and each time I left it. Within a couple of weeks the car

was fine. I

kept a spray bottle in the car for those just in case moments... I also used

this concoction

on me...it killed the mites and help sooth the skin..

I had the most problems with my lungs when I drove around with DE

dusted in the car. To the naked eye, it would appear that the

powders are all still but if you shine light to it at a certain

angle, the powders are airborne and I was breathing in lots of the

stuff. My lungs were hurting so I vacuumed it all up.

I'm having problems with the car tho. Many are using Windex but I'd

like to know how you used your alcohol/witch hazel/tea tree oil

concoction. Did you spray the entire car everytime you used it or

just around the drivers seat (seat, floor, door). Also, how much

did you spray? Did you mist or did you drench? I do use Windex but

I'm wary of it b/c it goes against the " do not water the mites "

concept since it adds a lot of moisture to the car.

Also, how often did you vacuum?

Thanks.

Your issue is why I didn't want to use DE in the car... I did not drench my

car...I would

spray the carpeting a bit more and then I would mist the rest of the car...I

have leather

seats, so I didn't need to spray a lot...if I had cloth seats I would probably

spray a little

I just made sure I sprayed each time I got in and out of the car... I didn't

care about sitting

on a slightly wet seat because the alcohol and witch hazel evaporate pretty

quickly.. and I

wasn't wearing anything like silk or a delicate fabric.

I would also spray my feet and legs when I got in...in case I had any on me...

If I came to a red light or stop sign and I felt ANYTHING... I would grab the

spray bottle

and spray around my legs...

The car became a non-issue after about two weeks...but I was diligent with my

routine. I

live it southeast Florida so the idea of getting rid of any moisture is a

joke...just not going

to happen...so the " do not water the mites " concept is out the window here. I

think it is a

valid concept...but not feasible where I live.

My opinion on the mites is they need to be hit directly with what ever you are

spraying at

them...if they don't get hit directly, they will not die. That's why being

diligent with a

routine is more important that the amount you spray. And that is why DE is

great. They

crawl into it (trying to get to you) and eventually they die.

When I first started having the infestation I was vacuuming every day and

washing

everything everyday. Once I started the DE treatment, I only vacuumed once a

week. I

would put the DE down and let sit for a week...then vacuum it up and reapply the

DE and

let sit for a week...I wound up doing this four times total... I vacuum much

less now

because I prefer to have the DE on the floor because the mites die from it. I

hate

vacuuming so now I only vacuum once every week or so (more like every two

weeks).

I used Windex at work... when I got into work I would lightly spray my chair and

the carpet

ing in my cube. I didn't spray the chair too much because I had to sit in it...

I would boot

up my computer standing up and then I would go and get my water, go to the

bathroom,

etc...so the chair would have a few minutes to dry. At lunch time, I would spray

the chair

and carpeting again and go have lunch. I would spray the chair and carpeting, my

desk

and keyboard at the end of the day.

Once I got rid of the mites at my home, the office got better immediately.

I hope this answers your questions. If not...please ask again.
