Guest guest
It seems we hit a topic and discuss it at length for a bit and then move on It's been awhile since Cedarcide was brought up so I'm wondering if anyone else is still using it or if you still believe in the good it does or is advertised to be. I fogged my condo and 2 cars, each once before I took off for 2 weeks. In that time, I had the condo heater set at 86F with the dehumidifier running. The cars I left as is. The condo is much better upon my return. I drove around one of the cars and it appears that the population has EXPLODED. My condo seems to be affected ever since I rode the car b/c I can feel more pin-pricks now in the condo after driving, whereas when I first got back and had not driven for 2 days, those 2 days were actually quite good. I know repeat treatments are necessary and I have not done them. It's just that they cost so dang much! Do you guys still recommend cedarcide in your regimen? -kihun
Guest guest
Kihun, We still use cedarcide in our cars every 3-4 days. However, we have had much luck with the Bifithrin (Ortho at Home Depot) and Nylar combination with the dehumidifiers, that at this point we prefer using those over the cedarcide for the house. Plus, it is so much cheaper! Wish I had known of those much earlier. I’m curious, you mentioned that Asians are more familiar with treating mites. What products do they use for complete eradication? Guest guest
Hi Pamela, My car was so bad yesterday, I went to Home Depot after work and got bifithrin (the Ortho brand). And sprayed the $%%@#!#%@ out of my car. I bought the 1.3 gallon one with the pump spray (you pull this pump once and it sprays for about 10-15 sec), which is the 0.05% concentration. This concentration) is what you've used right? I think the concentrated version is cheaper so I'll get that after this one runs out. Did you spray bifithrin and Nylar seperately? Do you have to wait until one dries before applying the other? I'm gonna experiment with using halogen lamps to heat up the car interior this weekend. I found one of those halogen security lights at Home Depot last night. The lamp is encased in a sturdy metal case with a glass panel. It should be safe in the car. Those 300W bulbs get really hot. I used 1500W portable hot plates that I picked up at Walmart the other day but the max temp got to 107F only in the car. And putting the hot plate in the hot interior worried me with all the electronics and wiring inside. The security halogen lamp is very simple in design which I like. Then if that doesn't work... well maybe C02 and as a last ditch effort the propane heaters. > > Kihun, > > > > We still use cedarcide in our cars every 3-4 days. > > > > However, we have had much luck with the Bifithrin (Ortho at Home Depot) and > Nylar combination with the dehumidifiers, that at this point we prefer using > those over the cedarcide for the house. > > Plus, it is so much cheaper! Guest guest
Yes, we got both the Nylar and Bifithrin from Home Depot as solutions and mixed them together and applied to the house as one mixed solution with no problem. No smell, and it seemed to evaporate pretty quickly. We had been doing the CO2 and Cedarcide on the cars once or twice a week, but maybe with the Nylar it will be a PERMANENT solution. We can only hope… From: bird mites [mailto:bird mites ] On Behalf Of kihunrc Sent: Tuesday, October 28, 2008 3:34 PM bird mites Subject: Re: cedarcide again Hi Pamela, My car was so bad yesterday, I went to Home Depot after work and got bifithrin (the Ortho brand). Guest guest
Hi Ki, I used what you got on our car and I did both the bifitherin and the nylar spray one after the other. I have had good results. Just make sure that you don't jus spray a line like the directions say. Get vicsious with it. Every crevice and crack and get the entire seats and floor. Ceiling too. Guest guest
Hi, Sorry I haven't been available to post for awhile. I use Cedarcide almost every day, usually on my feet and shoes, and sometimes my scalp. I used it to treat the inside of my car once, and wasn't impressed. I think if I had sprayed it every couple of days, it might have worked, but it is too expensive. I got results from spraying windex often, and vacuuming every few days with the gas station giant vacuum cleaner. If the bugs have burrowed deeply into your car seat, you will have a hard time getting rid of them. Is it possible to rip out the seat cushions and replace them? I was fortunate in that I had a very thick foam vinyl cover on my seat, so the seat did not get deeply infested, plus I wasn't driving very much during the worst of my infestation. The Cedarcide Best Yet is still my favorite environmental spray and repellent. I think Mel has battled the most ferociously against mites in her car, and has tried just about everything. Even burned a hole in her seat doing the heat treatment. I'm not sure if her car is cured yet. myrtle > > It seems we hit a topic and discuss it at length for a bit and then > move on It's been awhile since Cedarcide was brought up so I'm > wondering if anyone else is still using it or if you still believe in > the good it does or is advertised to be. > > I fogged my condo and 2 cars, each once before I took off for 2 > weeks.
