Guest guest
I want to thank everyone who had been praying for my co-worker . I had told you that she's a 24 yr. old beautiful girl who has lymphoma and was on a ventilator and feeding tube for about 6 months. She was released from the hospital in Dec., things looking up...tumor had shrunk. Now she's back in. She can't breath. The doctors said that we have 2 sets of breathing muscles and the nerves on her one side are totally paralyzed and the other is only working 30%. They now say that because of that she is unable to take a breath on her own and will have to breath via a ventilator for the rest of her life. She also still can't eat and is still on a feeding tube. This isn't a pretty picture or prognosis. Just got this news today. But I wanted to update those who had her on their prayer list. Guest guest
ly I don't think she'll be in this week, her husband called Tuesday afternoon and told me she'd have to stay in the hospital overnight (which I knew don't know why she thought she wouldn't have to stay overnight) so if she just got out yesterday I doubt she'll be in this week at all, I won't know until I get to work, I don't have my hopes up. But she fared well through the surgery everything went fine.ABrite@... wrote: In a message dated 4/27/2008 1:59:05 P.M. Guest guest
>her husband called Tuesday afternoon and told me she'd have to stay in the hospital overnight (which I knew don't know why she thought she wouldn't have to stay overnight) Insurances companies just aren't allowing it. It's pathetic, the state of health care out there. Another of our hospitals closed 2 weeks ago, the one I had a job as head nurse in for almost 10 years. The daily census on my unit used to be 50+, sometimes having to put 5 people in 4-bedded rooms and having people sleep in beds in the hallways with privacy curtains around them. There were 3 units that size, 2 smaller med-surg units, plus the ICU/CCU, which held 10 and always had a waiting list. One person would be transferred out through one door and the next patient was already being rolled in to take his place. The last few months, the census for the entire *hospital* averaged 30 a day. ICU/CCU was closed a year ago and all but one unit was closed. Next month a hospital 2 cities over is closing, and our wonderful multi-millionaire governor just announced the other day that there *will* be more closures as state money to bail out hospitals dries up. Our own city's hospital was sold and taken out of bankruptcy just a few months ago, has *dropped* all private insurance carriers and demands cash from the patients upon discharge, and it's up to the patients to get the money reimbursed from their insurance carriers. Their reasoning is that what the insurance companies pay doesn't even cover a third of the cost, that if they accepted the insurance as payment they would go right back into bankrupty. Well, duh! Instead they want to bankrupt their patients! Local doctors are now sending their people who desperately need hospitalization to hospitals the next city over, further angering the new owners because that means a lower census and less money for them. > But she fared well through the surgery everything went fine. Good to hear it. I hope the lapband didn't do any permanent damage and she had a rapid recovery. Sue in NJ
