Natural and Healthy Personal Care

Sample Formulations from Earthly Bodies & Heavenly Hair

Dina Falconi has chosen these basic formulations from Earthly Bodies &

Heavenly Hair to

introduce her unique approach to natural personal care.

Chamomile or Mint Eyes

For tense, strained eyes apply moistened chamomile or mint tea bags to

eyes for twenty

minutes.

Basic Honey Masque

A soothing, cooling, moisturizing masque for all skin types.

½-1 teaspoon honey per facial

Massage honey gently and evenly into face. Leave on for 20 minutes, then

rinse off with

warm water.

Skin Saver

To keep skin soft and supple, moisten skin with water and massage in a

few drops of oil,

such as olive for normal to dry, sesame for normal to oily or jojoba

for dry, mature skin.

Vegetable Garden Masque

This masque gently tones and rejuvenates the skin.

1 large handful fresh leafy greens (good choices are kale, lettuce,

collards and parsley;

organic preferred), ½-1 oz. liquid (water, yogurt or milk), 2

tablespoons cornstarch.

Chop greens and process in food processor or blender with water, yogurt

or milk, pouring

liquid in a little at a time until a thick paste results. Add cornstarch

and continue to blend. If the paste won't adhere, sprinkle in small

amounts of cornstarch

to thicken.

Apply thickly to the face and relax and recline to keep it from dripping

off. Leave on for

20 minutes or longer before rinsing off with warm water.

Lemon Aid

For a refreshing facial pick-me-up add a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice

to a pint of cold

water and splash on.

Bennay's Beauty Oil

This wrinkle preventing and rejuvenating skin treatment has its origins

in Native American

skin care.

1/8 to ¼ teaspoon castor oil; use more or less as needed.

Massage oil into the skin after the face has been washed but is still

slightly moist and

warm. The warmth and moisture allow the thick viscous consistency

of the castor oil to spread easily over the skin and contribute to the

success of this

treatment. Pat off excess oil if desired.

Herbal Salt Scrub

Salt's abrasive quality makes it excellent for exfoliation and cleansing

of the skin. Its

stimulating effects increase circulation and benefit tired, cold

and dull skin.

1 large handful of freshly dried herb of choice (such as lavender, sage

or mint), 2-3

tablespoons sea salt, ½ teaspoon olive oil, about 4 tablespoons water.

Grind herb into a powder mix with salt, add water and then the olive

oil. Mix thoroughly.

It will have a crumbly texture. (If bits of the herb fall off,

reapply.) Massage into the skin and allow to stay on for 10 minutes

before rinsing off.

Vinegar Hand Soak

Vinegar acts as an anti-fungal and disinfectant, while helping to

relieve aches and pains.

Soaks should last 10 minutes.

For a simple soak, add 2 tablespoons of vinegar to hot water in a basin

with one quart of

water. The vinegar can be quite drying to the skin, so you might

want to apply a moisturizing formula to your hands afterward. Note:

Vinegar may sting raw

and open skin but will help heal them.

Peppermint Foot Powder

A refreshing, strong anti-microbial foot powder with a peppermint aroma

for sweaty, smelly

feet.

4 drops peppermint essential oil, 4 drops tea tree essential oil, 2

drops sage essential

oil, 3 teaspoons cornstarch.

Put cornstarch in a small jar, add essential oils and stir them in

thoroughly. Cap jar and

shake to continue mixing the ingredients. Apply powder to feet

and sprinkle into shoes.

Foot Marinade

An excellent soak for achy, tired and swollen feet.

¼ cup vinegar, 1 teaspoon olive oil, 1 tablespoon sea salt, 4 drops

wintergreen essential

oil, 1 quart hot water

Add recipe ingredients to basin of hot soak water just before immersing

feet. For more

cleansing action, add 2 drops of tea tree essential oil. For a more

moisturizing action add another teaspoon of olive oil and omit the salt.
