Oregon Grape Root This plant is a holly-like plant that grows throughout the Pacific Northwest. It is the west coast's counterpart to goldenseal and bayberry which grow on the east coast. It is an excellent herb for the liver and a good blood purifier. Oregon Grape root is probably best known as a blood purifier. It is a good source of berberine one of the active constituents in goldenseal which has an anti-inflammatory effect, is a bitter, stimulates the production of HCl in the stomach and both digestive and liver secretions. It stimulates bile secretions, promotes liver function and purifies the blood, spleen and lymphatics. The increased flow of bile then aids in the digestion of fats and oils. When combined with Ginger and Dong Quai, it stimulates hormonal production in young women and aids in regulating the menstrual cycle. It actually has a stimulating effect on all the glands including the thyroid gland. It

is also considered a tonic for all the glands (the endocrine system). When combined with dandelion root, it is an excellent herb for skin disorders and is helpful for teenage acne. I believe this one is on the "endangered" list and would ask that if you must have it to please obtain it from someone who cultivates it and doesn't gather it from the wild. You are kidding about Oregon grape being on the endangered list, aren't you? It grows abundantly in the Pacific Northwest. My brother has it in his yard and I could probably cultivate it in my yard, if I wanted to.

The endangered list is for plants that grow in the wild. I thought this one was on the list but it looks like has been removed now.. http://www.unitedplantsavers.org/UpS_At_Risk_List.htmlSV <shavig@...> wrote: You are kidding about Oregon grape being on the endangered list, aren't you?
