Guest guest
Tess, I am so sorry to hear about your accident. I hope that you feel better soon. They didn't say anything about you having a concussion? But, the other girl's ins. should pay for a rental car. I know one time when I was in an accident there ins paid for a rental car for me. Take care. You are in my prayers. Beth in AR > > Hi Friends...On Wednesday I was driving my friend Kristi home after a nice afternoon of a visit and a slice of pie, and as I drove through a neighborhood, a little girl (18 or 19) did not look and was parked by a curb, pulling out directly into the passenger side of my car, sliding all along the right side, and then, I don't know how, but hit us again in the right rear bumper. Guest guest
Just what you needed - stress! Glad to hear it's nothing too serious, although you should keep monitoring your physical condition - sometimes these injuries take a while to really show up completely - believe me, I know. I call my accident the " gift that keeps on giving " . Her insurance should cover everything - fixing your car, a rental car until yours is ready, and ALL your medical bills (and your friend's) resulting from the accident, even if it's just the stress causing your RA to flare. Take a really hard line when her insurance company does call (you might even call them if they take too long!) because, of course, they won't want to pay any more than they have to. But if you push, they'll cover everything, plus probably something for " pain and suffering " , used to be about 3 times the medical bill but negotiable. Don't accept their first offer, tell them you have to think about it. Make sure they understand how hard the whole thing has been on you! BE STRONG. Also, call your insurance company. They will help you with the other company; some will even pay you immediately and collect from the other company themselves. Start a file. Get a copy of the DMV report, and the police report. Keep records of all your expenses, and make notes about your medical condition. Take notes of any phone calls to/from the insurance companies - date, time, person spoken to, what was said. Have them repeat anything back to you if you're not clear. YOU ARE IN CHARGE. Don't be in too big of a hurry to settle, you have whatever your state's law gives you. In CA, it's one year; in Oregon, it was two a few years back. Ask them to pay for the rental car direct, and to pay for the car repairs direct. Then you can hold out on the medical claim until you're sure there won't be any more expenses there. If your health insurance paid for the ER visit, you will have to tell them it's from an accident and they will likely want to recover their expenses from the other driver's insurance. More paper work to deal with. ugh. The whole process is very stressful, just keep telling yourself - and whoever who deal with - that the accident was not your fault, they OWE you. And for right now, rest. And pamper yourself. You deserve it. Good luck, and lots of really gentle hugs! Guest guest
Tess, I'm sorry to say but I have LOTS of experience with insurance with auto accidents. Fortunately they (3 cars totaled with injuries) were not our fault. At this point the most pressing thing you need to do ASAP is get a rental. Since it has already been 2 days they are likely to give you the line that you've gotten along OK for these 2 days so you don't need one. If they give you static along that line tell them you have not needed one because you were physically unable to drive. If your car is beyond reasonable fixing take some time replacing it say you are physically unable to shop at that time. Once we kept rental several weeks, as we were actually unable to shop. They had a fit, but paid anyway. Find out how much they will pay per day for the insurance as if you go beyond that you will have to pay the difference. And take lots of time to settle the medical part of the claim. Actually it is very normal for injuries to not show in all their nastiness for some time, weeks or months. I do hope you have no residual injuries from this. Hang in there and stay in charge. BVan (Betty)

Guest guest
Goodness, Tess. It's not a good thing to hear, but at least it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Maybe it's just a little blessing that will help you in the long run. You've had plenty of advice, so I won't offer any. I'm glad you weren't really hurt and it was at low speed. It could have been worse. This is the second incident I've read about today that has touched me. First it was Tracie's dad that died, and my niece died a few days ago. Now, you've had a rather minor wreck, smashing the side of your car, and my SIL called last night to let us know she got home to Florida ok. She drove here for a vacation in her new PT Cruiser and got as far as Mobile when she was hit on the driver's side by a big moving truck. The entire side of her car was destroyed, windows broken, and bumps and bruises for her, but she was able to drive from there down to Ft Meyers. Please, if something else happens today, I hope it will be something good., I've heard enough bad. Blessings to everyone, we all need them. BELIEVE me they don;t like that suggestion at all. And Betty is right take you time settling the medical up to a year if need be, and believe them when they try to tell you they can't settle on your care without the medical. in WI Betty <bvanOmega@...> wrote: Tess, I'm sorry to say but I have LOTS of experience with insurance with auto accidents. Guest guest
Hi all~ Three of my kids (DS 22, DD 17, and DS 15) were in a car crash this afternoon. It was the other guy's fault, and everyone is ok (besides DS's car ;-)). I'm taking them to my chiro on Wednesday (no more time today, and chiro isn't in the office on Tuesdays), but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone would have any ideas for herbal helps for them... DS 15 is sore~ he hit the dashboard with his knee and the side of his head has a sore spot (even though he doesn't remember hitting his head on anything). DD 17 is extremely emotional and still crying a little 2 hrs later. She says nothing hurts right now. DS 22 (who was driving) says nothing is hurting, but he's busy on the phone with all the insurance stuff and hasn't had time to really take inventory yet (IMO). I've given them Rescue Remedy and Arnica... and told them to take a B-Complex and Magnesium at dinner time. Any other suggestions? Thank you all very much~ Jan
Guest guest
Hey Jan, I don't remember if I extended my sympathies, but if I missed, consider them said. If that is the same Nerve Sedative Formula that used, I tried it once. I did not capsule it (too much trouble) and mixed it with a half glass of water. It went down, bounced and came up within seconds. So, make sure it is capsuled for them. I still have a bunch made up I have to cap if I can get past the smell and memories. Guest guest
Loretta, I can sure understand about wanting your life back. I have had a diskogram and it was NOT the most fun I have ever had with my clothes off! You have an IV and they inject each disk using fluoroscopy so that they can see the disks very clearly. As soon as they hit the really horrible one, they gave me something that knocked me out, through my IV. It is supposed to be a very specific and clearcut test. The best thing about it is it doesn't last long. Now about the surgery. There is no reason, that you have mentioned, that would prevent you from gaining your life back. It is possible to come back after this surgery and be just as active and not have problems at all. I was a competative black belt in TaeKwonDo and an instructor prior to my surgery. 4 years after surgery, I worked myself back up to that prior level of fitness and stayed there for a couple of years. Unfortunately, my body gave in to a connective tissue disease that I didn't know about and now I have a completely different life. It is still a life, just another version, with the problems of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. I hope this helps you. Good luck and may God bless you and keep you in the palm of His hand. Guest guest
I just had a discogram last Thursday. The procedure itself was not as bad as I thought it would be, but was definately very sore on Friday and Saturday. Still somewhat sore now, but improving. I was also in a rear end wreck in May of '07. I had a fracture at T12, and the doc thinks I need fusion at L4,L5,S1. I'm also hoping to get my life back too. Best of luck to you. I was rearended....>> Dear Loretta, I was the third and last car in a rear-end collision on the interstate in July 2007. I was stopped, the girl behind me barely stopped and the Dodge Ram behind her plowed into her at 65 mph. I just happened to have had my head and neck turned at an angle and looking up into my rearview mirror. I hit my head so hard on the headrest that it was like a cartoon...chirping birds, circling stars, little blackouts, etc. To date (18 months later) it has cost me a C5/C6 fusion; a failed breast surgery - the seatbelt tightened and launched a breast implant up into my armpit area causing an encapsulation. After corrective surgery I got an infection which caused my skin to tear and the implant extruded, causing the need for emergency removal of one implant; and a failed L5/S1 discectomy. My symptoms escalated over time and were not immediate. I have horrendous numbing and tingling of all 4 extremities and finally found a neurologist who was able to diagnose the probable cause of it. Only, I found him just 12 days prior to a scheduled L5/S1 fusion. So I put the breaks on surgery until this neurologist can run more tests to be definitive. I am waiting for my referrals for the discogram and neuropsychology screening test to determine the extent of brain injury. In addition to the physical injuries, over time I began to forget words, became incapable of starting and finishing tasks to completion, and can never remain focused, in addition to irritability, anxiety and panic attacks, etc. I guess I just wanted to point out that even though discograms are not necessarily thought of as " easy " , they are important and it's good that your doctor's sending you so early to have one. Out of my team of 12+ physicians, not a one of them offered that option until I met this neurologist. Not a one agreed to MRI my brain until this neurologist. As I said, my symptoms took time to develop and manifest themselves. For me, I began in a rush to " get my life back to normal " , but I have now resigned myself to taking the time needed for things to unfold and get corrected in good time, as needed. I am out on (unpaid) disability, waiting for my case to be determined. The symptoms of the minor brain damage continue to get worse, and since I've already had 2 of 3 failed surgeries, I am slowing down and letting the Drs do what they gotta do so that I can make the best decisions for me. I hope you get to feeling better physically and emotionally regarding the path to take towards wellness. God bless. Best regards, Patty A -------------------------- Above text © 2008 PEA. . I think we all get nervous over having to have such surgeries.... Sounds like this is really going to help with your pain. I've had two neck surgeries, and two back surgeries, but I've never had the discogram. Good luck with that, and hope it isn't too bad for you. Take it easy & God bless. Guest guest
I know exactly how you feel. The same thing happened to me. I'm on the verge of losing everything. My home included. I have no way to pay my bills as I've exhausted all means over the last year and a half. Hang in there. It's a tuff road to walk down, but we will all make it somehow. I'm really so tired of all this already. And, I'm going a little cabin fever crazy . I know other people don't want to hear about it, not that they don't care just such a helpless feeling for them I'm sure. The ironic thing is I was a home health nurse for 16 years. I saw other nurses hurt their back by turning or lifting patients. So I was always so careful, lifting from my knees, etc. I DID NOT want to hurt my back. Then one day I'm not doing anything wrong, just sitting at a redlight and this stupid idiot changed my whole life. I just want to call him and let him know what I'm going through. I guess I'm still really angry. Anyway, I just keep thinking this is just a process and I'll get through this too. Thanks for letting me vent.
