Guest guest
Don't know if it will help poison oak/ivy but when I itched all over my naturopath told me to find plantain in the yard, not the banana, and make a paste to smoosh all over me. It worked. Shari
Guest guest
This is from the files.. Poison Oak and Ivy Relief Sassafrass root 1 cup boiling water Make a good strong cup of sassafrass tea and allow to cool. Apply tea to affected areas several times a day. -------------HONEYSUCKLE-make an infusion by adding and steeping one ounce of blooms toa pint of water. Apply directly to skin for treating poison oak and rashes BUT I would try some black walnut tincture... if the jewelweed didn't work. SuziJan Jenson <vizual@...> wrote: HELP! Covered from head to toe with poison oak/ivy! Nothing seems to work. I even bought some jewelweed salve & spray and used it liberally last night and went screaming & itching to the shower TWICE last night… Made everything much worse! Tried tea tree essential oil & Miracle 2 Neutralizer Gel (that seems to help the most – but it’s still spreading like wildfire!) Tried Calamine lotion – some help… still itching & spreading. Guest guest
Rhus tox, a homeopathic remedy. You can get it at your local HFS or Whole Foods-type store. Probably in a 30C potency. I’d take a dose every hour for 4-5 hours, unless I saw relief before then. I wouldn’t use store-bought jewelweed salve/spray, but if you can find some jewelweed (should be growing right next to the poison ivy), you can make your own tea/decoction from it and pat it on your skin. Guest guest
Thanks Sharyn. I know about some combinations and other single remedies, but have never really looked into Rhus Tox. Good to know! (although i have seen it used in other preparations for heat and swelling) > > Rhus tox *is* poison ivy, . Guest guest
Hey Jan I can sympathyze. I am Hyper Allergic to poison oak. I need to be covered like a mummy to keep from tearing my own skin off. When were you exposed? If it's been a while, and you are still getting break-outs, but have showered, chances are it's not " spreading " , it's just breaking out where the oils have already gotten on your skin. I am sure you have washed not just yourself, but any clothing and items you may have come in contact with. For relief with me, the old remedies seem to work best. Bath in baking soda, wiping down with vinegar, that sort of thing. I feel for you, girl. Sorry I'm not more help. Peace, love, laughter Q: True or false - a pea can last as long as 5,000 years. A: Gobel: Boy it sure seems that way sometimes. > > HELP! Guest guest
I was reading once (really I was) that some older cultures actually gave their small children miniscule amounts poison oak and ivy to chew on, over a long period of time, to build up their immune systems to it. If you tried that today, you'd have CPS on your doorstep in no time. Peace, love, laughter Q: When a couple have a baby, who is responsible for its sex? A: Charley Weaver: I'll lend him the car. Guest guest
What works for me is to smear aloe vera jellies directly from inside the aloe leaf to all areas and breaking any blisters so the aloe can get to the flesh. that gives some frelief , then, rub baking soda into the areas which will feel good as it alows a gentle scratchinng and will dry up the fluids. Keep doing it as long as needed to get it dried. ..Granny lee god Bless. ---- Jan Jenson wrote:> HELP!
