I've been without my PC for about 5 months now and have finally settled in Texas. It's a big change from Orange, VA. Mostly for the good. Love the weather here, no more ice, snow and bitter cold. A real improvement for old bones. Hope everyone has been well and happy and eating good nurishing food. I have missed this list. Anne Bird

Dear Terry,

I'm very happy to see you back on the board. Congratulations on

your marriage and on finally getting your SSD approved.

I'm sorry about the insurance situation (Do you qualify for COBRA?

Just be careful -- it's important not to let your insurance lapse

for too long, otherwise a future potential insurer can deny you

coverage for pre-existing conditions. I can't remember what the

exact rule is, but I think you can't let it lapse for 3 months or

something like that. Maybe someone else can weigh in.)

I'm also sorry that you and your bride are experiencing pain from

the accident. You have a macabre definition of a honeymoon. : )

Anyway, great to have you back. I've missed your dark sense of

humor.

Warmest regards.

First off thanks , I missed you man:) Glad to know your still on the

boards and I will remain so as well. I have medicare A and B but I may be

screwed on the suplimental insurance because Bank of A decided I was termed

a month sooner than they told me, but I am calling Monday to talk to the

supplimental insurance so I will see then.

Maxine,

From what I was told by the company that helped me get SSD(Allsup) it is

difficult for those of us to get disability sometimes for CML because if

your in remission they do not bother to take in consideration any side

effects you may suffer from being on Gleevec. (don't get me wrong I will not

EVER stop the gleevec treatments unless it begins to fail) My side effects

are I guess what would be considered moderate, but I have fatigue, bone

pain, and nausea. I was being paid benefits from Aetna insurance before I

was approved for SSD and they standard they use is if you are not able to

perform the functions of the job you were doing, or something to that

extent. Ever quarter I have to fill out a form and my Docs have to was well

stating I have not improved in order for Aetna to continue my payments. When

my case went before the judge he signed off on it quickly. In other words at

first you have to go through paper pushers that just see " remission " and

think that means cured, and deny the claim, until it goes in front of

someone that actually looks at everything. So if you are trying for SSD hang

in there and keep appealing you should get it eventually, but again that

depends on your side effects some of us with CML do not suffer side effects

at all on our medications, and some of us suffer allot of side effects, I

personally land I think somewhere in the middle. I hope that helped answer

your question.

Rene,

I am so sorry to hear about your grandson. I know my disease has cost me

dearly, but it kills me(not literally) to hear of younger people with

Leukemia. The form I have and most of us here have is a Chronic Form so it

is a long drawn out disease. I honestly do not have allot of info on ALL but

I pray everything turns out well for your grandson. You are at the right

place for people to talk to though and as far as BMT's go...my docs are not

even thinking in that direction and personally I would not consider it as

long as I am kept in remission by Gleevec. Keep in touch and let us know how

your grandson is doing, take care,

Terry

Ireneo,

I am glad to hear your grandson is enjoying spending time with his family in

the Philippines.

From the sound of it your grandson's will to live will help him

tremendously! That is the

most important thing for someone is to keep that will to live alive and

strong. He sounds like

a wonderful child.
