Guest guest
Kathy, I am so sorry to hear that your son was the victim of another person's careless actions. You and your son are in my prayers. As is the young man who made the error. Please have someone verify this before trying it as I am not sure if bacteria from a raw potato could cause infection. I've never heard of it anywhere else but it did work for me when I was little. I burned my hand badly and my grandmother took a whole potato and peeled it and sliced one slice off at a time and scraped the slice with a knife and placed it on the burn. When the potato slice(s) got red, she would throw the slice(s) out and cut another and continue doing this with slices on my hand for quite a time. It worked. I don't know if it was the starch, the potassium in the potato or what biological properties. - Dolly --- In health , " Kathy " <vanokat@...> wrote: > > Hi guys, > My 13 yo son was burnt this past weekend and spent 4 days in ICU. Guest guest
Some burn units have experimented with using potato peels as a dressing for full-thickness burns, so there is some precedence for this. I am not sure how they sterilize the peels though, infection is the biggest risk in these cases. Guest guest
If the potato skin was sterilized and the knife was sterilized, the peelings should be ok.
