I was visiting a family member and notice how dry and thin her hair is

getting. I asked had she been ill or any medications changes. She said

no. Is there anything in the files about dry thinning hair. If so can

you direct me to it. And what would be the cause for this

Thank you

Thyroid issues can cause this, as can PCOS (Polycystic Ovary

Syndrome).

I'm sure the environment can play a large part, too, as can

shampoo/conditioner. There are both " regular " and

natural, organic shampoo's I can't use because they cause my hair to

become dry and brittle.

Women can experience thinning hair for many reasons. First of all, there’s aging. Thinning hair is a natural part of aging and is common even among the healthiest women. Once you pass age 20, you shed more than the normal 40 to 100 hairs a day. Then a combination of factors, including heredity and hormones, causes some hair follicles to get smaller and smaller. Normally, hair grows about a half-inch per month, but this "miniaturization" of the hair follicles prevents the hair from following its regular growth process. In addition to the natural aging process, particular situations may cause hair thinning, including hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid gland), anemia (low red blood cells), poor diet, certain medications, stress, childbirth, and perimenopause (the time leading up to menopause). Fortunately, this type of hair thinning is usually reversible, once the underlying cause is treated. By far the biggest cause of thinning hair in

women is a persistent condition called androgenetic alopecia, also referred to as "hereditary hair thinning." Hereditary hair thinning affects more than 30 million women in the United States. Other disorders that cause hair to thin include alopecia areata, telogen effluvium, and traumatic alopecia, all of which are discussed in detail in this site. Your health care provider (pharmacist, nurse practitioner, gynecologist, primary care physician, or dermatologist) can help you determine the actual cause of your thinning hair. Once you know the reason, you can explore your treatment options. Two herbs that

come to mind are Ginkgo biloba: - is a powerful herb from the Far East and has been grown in temple gardens for thousands of years. Its medicinal properties have only been discovered by the West during the last 20 years, where clinical studies have indicated its effectiveness in restoring the functioning of the circulatory system and improving blood flow to the brain and all parts of the body. Ginkgo also acts as an anti-oxidant, helping to prevent free radical damage and premature aging. Active ingredients include flavone glycosides (including ginkgolide), bioflavins, sitosterol, lactones and anthocyanin. Rosmarinus officinale: (Rosemary) - is a herb which originated in the Mediterranean and is regarded in folklore as a symbol of remembrance, for good reason. It is an excellent tonic and system energizer and has a therapeutic effect on the circulatory system, also improving

peripheral and systemic blood flow, thereby allowing nutrient rich blood to reach the hair follicles. My hair has improved immensely since I stopped using all shampoo on my hair. It takes a couple weeks to get past the greasy phase, but it will come and after that my hair is much healthier and feels thicker.

Could be any number of things, but most

likely just the aging process and heredity. In my family, on my Italian side, the

women get thinner hair, especially on top, as they age. Mine started falling

out after my hysterectomy, so hormones probably played a role as well. If this

is not the case for her, the next greatest probability is a nutritional

deficit. A natural shampoo and conditioner with rosemary extract in it will

help regardless of the reason.

I think Eden Body Works is stuff I ordered online. Don't call as t

hey charge more sadly. She was on Oprah. I am happy with the order

of the oil, the conditioner and shampoo as a kit for $20--Eden Hair

Pack.

It lasts a long time. Wish I knew what the heavenly oil smell was in

it, but maybe someone else will detect it as it may be their hidden

essential oil they are not sharing. This is the 15 year old. I have

beening the stuff for about 2 months now.
