Guest guest
> > Since shallots are a member of the allecin (sp?)/garlic family, do they have some of the same healing properties? ==>Yes they have similar healing properties. Actually shallots, leeks, onion, garlic, etc. are members of the onion family. Bee
Guest guest
In order to get the healing properties of garlic, it needs to be crushed, right? Is it the same with shallots or can they just be sliced? Are some better than others? For example, are shallots better than red or yellow onions? I'm learning so much. Thanks! I don't know whether crushing shallots is important. > > Are some better than others? For example, are shallots better than red or yellow onions? I'm learning so much. Thanks! ==>I don't know Jill, and I do not have time to search. Bee
Guest guest
Bee, I happened across an answer last night while reading Mercola's total health book and I thought I'd pass along what I found. Red onions have more antioxidents and flavonoids than do yellow or white onions. Jill > > > > Are some better than others? For example, are shallots better than > red or yellow onions? Guest guest
I came across another huge score at our local farmers mkt. today. A guy had five pound bags of certified organic shallots for 2 bucks. You had to buy the whole 5 lb. bag so I did. Now what to do with them?? I know they're sort of like onions. Five pounds is A LOT of shallots. Any suggestions, recipes? Gloria************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. Guest guest
Use the same way you would use onions. You can dehydrate some for future use. A more refined flavor than onions. Thanks Gayla. I have so many of them! I wasn't sure if they were closer to garlic or onions. Going to use some tonight. Gloria ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. Guest guest
You can dry or freeze them. Just grab a bunch and bag 'em and throw them in the freezer?? That would be great!! Thanks Suzi. Guest guest
Don't give up on popcorn. Sow fresh popcorns in the soil after soaking them in tap water for about 6 hours. The ones that were rotting may not grow. Gopal From: misslavande <misslavande@...> Subject: shallots Date: Thursday, November 13, 2008, 1:13 AM can we do the same with shallots? they are so expensive at the market and so gently sweet in salads, I use much more of it than garlic. Garlic is still on the phyto-estrogen list but shallots is not Giving up on pop corn, they are starting to rot and still hard! I buried then in soil, and sprinkle with seaweed water, will see... E.W. you are right, my sweet pea is starting to move the soil up side down, it is so beautiful to see life grow! Miss Lavande
